For a hybrid I think they hit the mark with this one. I would have liked to see a bit more meade like ABV however, the blend was pleasing to the palate although it took me a few sips to decide if this one would be good or not. I loved the golden meadish color and the quick disipation of head was expected. The bottle looks great next my chaotic chemistry and I'm sure the Thumbsucker will fit well with its brethren.

First of all, the bottle is awesome. Black frosted glass tapering down in a cone, with a small label on the bottom. The cork has the little Magic Hat dingbat star all around it. Very cool. Packaging gets a 9 (10 if they actually screened on the bottle) The beer itself gives off a powerful aroma of pure honey and apples. It’s a pale golden color, with a large white head. To me, the beer tastes remarkably belgian. Very fruity and effervescent. I recommend a wide goblet style glass to bring out the full bouquet. Very clean and rich. The malts mingle expertly with the honey and apple taste. Hops are light and finish off the taste with a clean snap. Honey lingers for a short while after. I’m not too familiar with mead, but this is certainly not what I’m used to when I drink honey ale (as advertised on the label). Very belgian. My only complaint is that it seems this will be an extremely limited release, and won’t be available permanently. I paid abut $10 for a 750ml bottle at the brewery, which is also sort of expensive. The beer is very very good, however. Worth the experience.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours pale golden with no head at all. Aroma of honey, and sweet malts. Flavor is great, honey, smooth very refreshing, sweet. Good body, excellent brew.

Easiest way I can describe it is to take a magic hat #9, tone down the apricot, add lots of honey and some spices, cinnamon in particular. Pours gold, fizzy head that quickly diminishes. It has a thin body, attributable to the honey. Worth getting 2 bottles, one for now and one for the cellar as I think the honey flavors will only improve.

Cloudy Orange, White head - Honey, lemon aroma. It tates like I imagine a honey soda would taste, and I mean that in a good way. Nicely dry, slight notes of lemon or orange. Light and refreshing, this is a nice change of pace from still meads. Really enjoyed this one. Thanks, Secret Santa!

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2005 Fruity champagney aroma and a bright yellow color with a slightly lingering head (the bottle had been breathing for an hour). Tastes more like a cider, malty cider. It’s not bad, but not impressive.

Sampled in 2005 from the bottle, it’s quite a bit better. The aroma was sweet and "hayish" while the flavor was delicate and slightly tart at the start. It opened up into a sweet honey aftertaste.

Whats a braggot? Cloudy glowing yellow with a big egg shell head. Smells much like instant quaker oatmeal apples and cinnamen and even dryer sheets. Tastes exactly like the quaker apples and cinnamen oatmeal. Especially when you chew on the dried apple pieces before adding water.

The bottle is great!. The beer is quite good too! It does foam quite a bit when pouring: it took me quite awhile to get the glasses filled with something other than foam. It was also difficult to get the cork out without a corkscrew. Light in color. The fermented honey gives it a distinctive flavor. Light, dry and still a little sweet. No real maltiness or hoppiness to it at all. Very unique.

Purchased while at the Magic Hat Brewery. Great golden color and a light honey aroma. Carbonation stirs up the mouth and brings on a strong honey flavor while sipping. Complex flavors, but the honey dominates. Magic Hat does a fine job with all of its beers, but I’d rather have a Leinenkugel (WI) Honey Wheat over this one. Both are equally hard to get here in Delaware.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2004 Light amber color, with a monstrous head. Sweet honey with a tad of pepper aroma. Mouthfeel surprisingly wasn't too fizzy. Starts off sweet and ends crisp and dry.
