knights97 (80), Tennessee, USA Sep 13, 2008 To a beer that claims to be THE HEFE of beers, it fails to live up to bold statement. The appearance is very clear when looking through the body and appears to have been filtered at some point, there are hints of lemon in the taste to this yellow body beer that light and it’s not well balanced at all. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 13, 2008 Poured a yellow color with a sparse white head. Aroma of citrus and lemongrass. Flavor is distinctly hefeweizen, with a lemony kick at the end. Dezzilu (211), Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA Sep 11, 2008 Pale golden in color with ja filmy white head. Aroma contains citrus, and something a little bit peculiar which I assume is lemongrass. In the mouth it tasted like a Hefeweisen, but the aftertaste is quite a bit more bitter then I expected. The truth is that I really appreciate the approach of this brewery: they are seemling always trying to be original, but not off the deep end. This beer isn’t a winner though and should likely be re-thought. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 6, 2008 Dark yellow with a fizzy head, citrus and bready aroma and taste with a big zesty lime presence. bsm80 (144), Massapequa, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Not the best Magic Hat, not the best hefe, kind of bland and light for my taste, but a decent beer nonetheless. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 Updated: Dec 6, 2008not as offensive as i thought it might be. the main flavor and aroma proponent is a biscuity wheat quality. whether that is actually malt or just some noxious combination of lemongrass and weizen yeast i do not know. first of all, this is at best a wheat beer and not a weizen, since it is clearly been highly filtered, pours as clear as your average rice beer. i dont see how anyone is rating this as cloudy, this is very transparent. i dont sense any real lemongrass or even lemon, and very little to no citrus whatsoever so im not sure what good its inclusion was. i dont even know if id qualify this as an ’interesting take’ on a wheat beer, this is not a total waste but the ridicolous amount of creativity going into the name, label and corporate image has certainly trumped the intregue provided by the actual beer. mostly completed with this beer and now im noticing a very strong aftertaste that lingers for 20-30 seconds after each sip. i take back what i said earlier, this is now beginning to qualify as ’offensive’ thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 1, 2008 Pours bright clear gold into a weizen glass. Crisp and non-descript. No real hefe qualities. Slightly sour in the finish. PhatB420 (126), Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA Aug 31, 2008 hazy, musty, cloudy, typical hefe here. Nowhere to turn to for direct labeling at this point. As much as this tries to manipulate your senses it falls short.
