daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 15, 2008 Odd beer for sure. This was the first Magic Hat Beer I tried while in Vermont. Not what I expected. Cloudy yellowish/gold color. White head. Tart aroma, maybe some yeast, vinegar, grains. Taste is odd, some sweetness and some grains. Something odd...the lemongrass I guess? Drinkable, but not the best. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2008 Magic Hat Brewery night at Three Cellars Milwaukee. More a Hefeweizen, by taste a good easy drinking beer. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 13, 2008 Pours a hazy straw color with a medium white sudsy head. Funky aroma, some vinegar, mustard seed, lemon, and light wheat. Grainy wheaty taste, sweet and lightly bitter, lots of lemongrass and coriander. Very light bodied, ample carbonation, feels thin in the mouth. Sugary without purpose... I like the Lemongrass... but the sweetness overshadows it. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2008 Bottle. Standard appearance, yellow, small white head. Mild grassy some yeast aroma. Standard aste, maybe a bit light, light wheat, mild yeast, some grassy flavours. Serviceable and drinkable, did not leave much of an impression. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2008 12oz bottle, easy to gulp not much flavor, kind of bland and boring, sure there is lemongrass and some other mild flavors, nothing standoutish.. just boring. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 11, 2008 The Dan Journal #218. 12oz bottle. Tasted 7/28/08. Hazy with a pale yellow hue. Ring of off-white head. Mildly musty aromas. Earthy and hoppy. Soggy fruits. Doughy and candy. Apples and citrus. Pineapple and lemon. Interesting, but odd... jordanb (19), Virginia, USA Aug 9, 2008 The pour is everything you’d want in a hefeweizen: cloudy golden color with just a tinge of orange, two fingers of fluffy white head, and an inviting hint of citrus in the aroma. The lemongrass is there, without a doubt, and lingers on the palate well after each sip. But there’s very little to the flavor apart from it -- none of the spiciness or complexity you’d want in a wheat beer. Like the other Magic Hat offerings I’ve tried, it doesn’t so much disappoint as it fails to live up to expectations. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Aug 9, 2008 On tap sampled at NFB&WF ’08 at Martha Clara Vineyards. First of all, I’ve got to say, getting a souvenir Magic Hat packaged condom is a highlight of the event for me. I collect breweriana and this is my first beer-related condom! Mom will be so proud...
The beer itself was not all that great. Pours a cloudy straw. Aroma of yeast and some light spice. Flavor is very similar. Watery and light-bodied.
