Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Yes, the bottle calls it a hefeweizen. The beer, however, is brewed with a (fairly hefty) portion of lemongrass, which contributes a significant aroma and flavor. Thus we have deemed it a Spice/herb/vegetable and not a German Hefeweizen, which should be free from adjuncts (other than hops).

Cloudy orangey colour with minimal head. Aroma is lemon grass and wheat. Flavour has tons of lemon grass which upsets the wheaty flavour.

I was looking forward to rating my first Magic hat, but I have to admit that Circus Boy is closer to Circus Piss than it is to good beer, and a sorry excuse for a Hefeweizen. Pours to a hazy orange-red with a thin off-white head that dissipated quickly and left little lacing. Aroma was a sour apple-citrus fruit-malty sweet combination that was not real impressive, and the mouthfeel was flat. Taste was another combination of sweet fruit and a little hops, but no spices like you expect. This all led to a finsih that was short and stale. I hope the remainer of my Magic Hat slections I have are better than this. They almost have to be.

cloudy gold/orange with small white head. slight citrus yeast aroma. taste is wheat, mild bitter hop, some spice. mod/high carbonation is the main detractor. its an decent mild wheat with some light pale ale qualities. not their best (and definitely not a hefe) but a decent session beer that i wouldn’t turn down.

Poured from: 12oz bottle. Drank from: Duvel tulip. Temp: cellar. Best by: end of Jul ’07. Color: murky yellow-orange. Head: frothy, white, disappearing. Lacing: almost none. Aromas: herbal, lemon zest, secondary notes of vegetables and soap. Body: medium-light. Texture: light, with a touch of oiliness. Carbonation: average. Flavors: sweet n’ sour, with a distinct saltiness. Finish: short n’ sweet. Overall: better than fair, but not quite good.

decent Hef. at best. I’ve had it with and without lemon. I prefer it with a wedge of lemon just to make it a little more palatable. I found that it really needs to be ICE ICE Cold to enjoy it the most.

Slightly skunky banana/citrus aroma, and flavor. Some sort of a light hint of spice in the finish, but basically just bland. Pretty much what I’ve come to expect from this brewery.

Lite citrus, grainy, earthy, wheat aroma. Cloudy golden-white with lasting head. Mild wheat, citrus, grains, and mildly sweet malt flavour. Smooth with mild bitter finish.

On tap at Mile Square in Hoboken. The taste of the lemongrass is good, and it really makes for a nice american hef. Crisp and refreshing, which in my mind is exactly what you want from a hef.
