Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jan 22, 2007 12 oz bottle, from the sampler. Lemongrass... no idea what that contributes. No discernible difference in taste from any other average hefe-style brew. Not a bad brew overall. GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Jan 20, 2007 Bottle. Copper-orange. 1/2" foam. Lightly carbonated. Wheaty, grassy, orange-peel scents. Tangy taste, with clear banana and yeast qualities. Thin body. OK - my wife loves it and any beer she likes is a winner in my book. Apellonious (53), USA Jan 19, 2007 Updated: Nov 16, 200712 oz bottle..Pours a cloudy yellowish orange with a thin head. Aroma is grassy, with hints of banana and clove. The beer’s mouthfeel is smooth for a brief instant (like the fame of K-Fed),but then becomes very sharp. Carbonation decent. The flavor is of the grassy/banana citrusy variety, but not overpowering. I got half way down my glass when I noticed that most of the yeast unfilteration was conglamarating still at the bottom of the bottle. I managed to get some of it out of there into the glass which clouded it up and smoothed it out some. Added some texture. Worth a try, but Magic Hat has better.
cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2007 AHH, all right! Another wheat beer I have not tasted. No kidding, wheat is one of my favorite styles! Also, I really took to the magic hat #9 I had on tap. Oh no! I see this is rated as a veggie spice beer, things are getting worse. It says unfiltered and unfettered with a closed curtain on the front, how quaint! Has an interesting sour aroma once I pop the top off of the brown 12 oz bottle. Oh yea, don’t you just love the pour of an unfiltered beer, especially a hefe? Swirling mysterious clouds in the vague unsettled brew. This one is not white, it is kind of sweet apple cider colored, orangish light brownish tan. There is this coating of sludge in the bottom of the bottle. Lemon grass? Burlington VT? Rouse gently? These things listed on the label are all mysteries to me. Flavor is definitely hefelike but not in the manner of a whitbeir. Yes this is more like an american wheat, and I think it is more like an american wheat than many other american hefes on this site. This is one of the better spice/herb/veggy beers I’ve drank. The name magic hat deserves some accommodations. Finish is a little bitter surprisingly but it is neither offensive nor lasting, its gone after a few moments. Would buy again, can appreciated this brew.
nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Jan 18, 2007 Updated: Mar 2, 2007One of the worst beers I’ve had. I’d been not so fond of Magic Hat, but this was the last straw. It tastes of rotten bananas. IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Jan 18, 2007 I find it mediocre from the bottle, but I think it is excellent when on tap. It has a nice smootheness and the flavor is full of citrus and spices. Even if you found it to be below average from the bottle, it is worth trying if you see it on tap. HomebrewEx (2), USA does not count Jan 17, 2007 One of the worst craft beers I’ve ever had. Not a hefeweizen, just a very below-average American wheat beer. I actually considered pouring out the six-pack I got just to use the bottles. shp555 (1680), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 16, 2007 Pours a straw yellow color with a white head. Aroma is of light citrus. Flavor is slightly wheaty with lemon finish.
