Magic Hat Brewing Co. Elixirs Find... Brewery Tour Now Playing Shop Peep Show Get Social About Us Home Blog Circus Boy — THE Hefeweizen Unfiltered and unfettered, Circus Boy is a unique and refreshing American-style Hefeweizen. Is he a who? Or a what? Or perhaps some of both? Be amazed by the flavorful haze of this wonderful wheat beer.

Editor’s note: Yes, the bottle calls it a hefeweizen. The beer, however, is brewed with a (fairly hefty) portion of lemongrass, which contributes a significant aroma and flavor. Thus we have deemed it a Spice/herb/vegetable and not a German Hefeweizen, which should be free from adjuncts (other than hops).

355ml bottle. I feel like magic hat rates are rates for rating’s sake. Doesn’t look remotely close to a hefeweizen. Smell is insanely light bread crust. Almost no scent. Flavor is wheaty, mineral water, plastic, some fruit notes. This is an abomination.

Drank from bottle 11/8. Slight floral aroma. Mild taste. Not to bad of a beer, could definitely down a few and not feel it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Transfer from BA review on 10-4-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a hazed lightly tinted orange-amber color with a small one finger fizzy white head. The head fades quite quickly leaving a patchy film on the top of the brew and very little lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is super light overall with just a little bit of a wheaty smell and a small amount of yeast and grass. Taste – The taste begins wheaty and bready with a light hint of yeast. It has a moderate sweetness upfront with some flavors of lemonade. As the flavor advances the sweet begins fading with the lemonade turning a bit more sour, taking on a more tart lemon flavor. Flavors of a grassy nature come to the tongue at the end leaving a rather pleasant, semi sweet, wheaty taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is very light with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Both are rather nice for the somewhat sweeter hefe flavors of the brew and make it quite easy to drink. Overall – Not a flavor powerhouse, but rather easy drinking. A decent brew overall.

Like other magic hat brews, this beer did an excellent job of masking the "unusual" ingredient or flavoring...I really did not notice the lemongrass until I read up about the beer later on. The overall character of this beer is like a lighter, crisper version of a hefeweizen. It does have a slight lemony aroma, when I pay attention and look for it. Flavor is muted, and this beer is considerably more astringent, especially in the finish, than a typical hefeweizen. Overall, very interesting, and very pleasant. I think I slightly prefer the traditional hefeweizens, but this was really worth trying and was well-executed and different, yet subtle and balanced.

12 oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass. The initial aroma is a rather strong warm buttered toast aroma, more on the buttery sweet side than toast side. When that subsides not too long thereafter, a spicy lemongrass comes in to replace is with some banana and clove in the background. The beer is a slightly hazy, golden yellow with a fluffy white head that reduces slowly. It leaves behind an abundant, puffy lace with a good, puffy ring and some wisps on the surface. It’s a refreshing, light balance of sweet and bitter - maybe a bit more sweet than bitter. The beer is medium / medium-light in body with a creamy / oily texture and a light, prickly carbonation. It finishes dry and crisp, with kick of a spicy lemon zest and something resembling a coriander and/or clove mixture that disappears pretty quickly. The aftertaste is a light toasted grain, but it fades quickly.

Pours a light cloudy golden with minimal head. Aroma is weak with light herbal and citrus notes. Flavor and body are both weak with average sweetness and a bit of citrus. Not a great hefeweizen

Some coriander, bread yeast. Fruit finish and some candied malt aroma. Lemongrass makes this hefe cool. Bottle.
