3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Like other magic hat brews, this beer did an excellent job of masking the "unusual" ingredient or flavoring...I really did not notice the lemongrass until I read up about the beer later on. The overall character of this beer is like a lighter, crisper version of a hefeweizen. It does have a slight lemony aroma, when I pay attention and look for it. Flavor is muted, and this beer is considerably more astringent, especially in the finish, than a typical hefeweizen. Overall, very interesting, and very pleasant. I think I slightly prefer the traditional hefeweizens, but this was really worth trying and was well-executed and different, yet subtle and balanced.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass. The initial aroma is a rather strong warm buttered toast aroma, more on the buttery sweet side than toast side. When that subsides not too long thereafter, a spicy lemongrass comes in to replace is with some banana and clove in the background. The beer is a slightly hazy, golden yellow with a fluffy white head that reduces slowly. It leaves behind an abundant, puffy lace with a good, puffy ring and some wisps on the surface. Itís a refreshing, light balance of sweet and bitter - maybe a bit more sweet than bitter. The beer is medium / medium-light in body with a creamy / oily texture and a light, prickly carbonation. It finishes dry and crisp, with kick of a spicy lemon zest and something resembling a coriander and/or clove mixture that disappears pretty quickly. The aftertaste is a light toasted grain, but it fades quickly.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a light cloudy golden with minimal head. Aroma is weak with light herbal and citrus notes. Flavor and body are both weak with average sweetness and a bit of citrus. Not a great hefeweizen

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
"Circus Boy" is a whimsical name, and as one who judges books by covers and beers by name, I had high hopes. The appearance is nice and it heads up ok.
Speaking of books, the aroma of Circus Boy is like when you open up a cardboard box full of old books that has been sitting in an attic for 10 years. Except the box was originally used for some sort of fruit (lemons?) and one of the lemons was left inside. Musty, dusty.
Thankfully itís not too sweet - which is about the only nice thing that I can say about it. Notes of burning leaves with a fruity-tart, but not crisp finish.

Bottle courtesy of the Tampa Crew. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is wheat, grain, and pepper, with a bit of yeasty sweetness/ esters. Flavor is similar- wheat, grain, and pepper with yeasty esters. Light to medium in body and not bad overall.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a clear yellow/orange body with no head whatsoever, lacing is minimal and somewhat spotty and drips down the side of the glass. It leaves no rings and there isnít any visible carbonation rising.
The smell had a fresh sort of floral yet lemon aroma. However, I do note the black pepper that comes out pretty strong. There are some hops in the background.
The taste brings back the lemon and some malts come out. A slight wheatiness comes out in the taste. The black pepper comes in the taste closer to the end of the beer.
The palate sits fairly light with a heavier carbonation which leaves a crisp sort of feel. It leaves a slightly dry finish.
Overall, this is not a bad beer. I guess I found it interesting with the "black pepper" thing going on in an American Pale Wheat Ale. It may be something I just need to get used to, thatís all. Iím not sure if I would get this again, maybe on tap.
