Magic Hat Brewing Co. Elixirs Find... Brewery Tour Now Playing Shop Peep Show Get Social About Us Home Blog Circus Boy — THE Hefeweizen Unfiltered and unfettered, Circus Boy is a unique and refreshing American-style Hefeweizen. Is he a who? Or a what? Or perhaps some of both? Be amazed by the flavorful haze of this wonderful wheat beer.

Editor’s note: Yes, the bottle calls it a hefeweizen. The beer, however, is brewed with a (fairly hefty) portion of lemongrass, which contributes a significant aroma and flavor. Thus we have deemed it a Spice/herb/vegetable and not a German Hefeweizen, which should be free from adjuncts (other than hops).

Light and refreshing but also watery and lacking in flavor. Just doesn’t pack much of a punch.

Bottle in Minneapolis picked up in Minneapolis. Pours a clear, golden orange appearance with an off white head. Fairly spicy, grassy, light banana, lemon, a bit zesty aroma. Somewhat floral/soapy, lemongrass, herbal flavor. Bleh.

Bottle @ home. Pours lightly hazy dark gold with a small, tight-bubbled white head, short retention with rapid succession to the glass edge, and spare lacing. Aroma is grainy and earthy wheat malt, spicy notes with lemongrass character. Flavor is spicy, light hops and bitterness, with supporting malt and a dry, crisp finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

VEry aromatic like a weizen but the flavour was something sitll missing. Perhaps some cloves more needed.

Pours a clear golden yellow with minimal head and lacing. Aroma of German yeast and wheat, with overlying grassy notes. Taste is sweet citrus, grass, and wheat, no real yeast. This is mediocre at best, but easy to drink I suppose.

This has a bit of lemon and orange fruitiness to it but also a quite strong wheat body. The tingle from the carbonation gives is a strange mouthfeel. Couldn’t drink it all. Knowing now that it has lemongrass basically fits my description...and I’ve yet to have a beer with lemongrass that made me want to have another.

Alpha10 (114) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 15, 2013
2013/04/15 - Pours a hazy, yellow straw color, with a small, fizzy, white head. Aroma is lemon, spice, grass and very faint banana. Taste is lemon, grass and slight wheat. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with less carbonation than expected. Not true to the hefeweizen style. Would not buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pretty typical american version of hefeweizens, not containing those nice clove and banana flavors. This one does have some sweetness, more lemony and not really what i would want for this style. I try not to rate to style but, this is one of those styles where I want it a certain way and this is not representative of that. Hybrid styles are good and variations are good too, but I like it a little more true to hefewezien characteristics.

12 oz bottle pours a hazy orange with no head. Left the dregs in the bottle. Citrus, lemon, some skunk on the nose. Very faint aroma. Watery mouthfeel, pretty flat carb-wise. Not much going as far as hefeweizen tendencies go. Flavor is light lemon and banana runts.

Bottle puts a cloudy golden yellow with a thin white head. Tastes thin, wheat, lemongrass, and a malty finish. Overall pretty weak.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow body with a small fizzy thin head that faded to a small island of foam rather quickly. The nose is dominated by the lemongrass very much, not exactly to style for a Hefe, glad this is in the S/H/V category. Very little wheat or yeast makes it past. The flavor is much the same, lots of lemongrass up front, but at least there’s a little yeastiness on the finish. Thin and watery body with soft fizzy carbonation. They pretty well ruined this beer with the spicing. Hope people don’t have this and think that this is what a Hefe is supposed to taste like.
