Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Yes, the bottle calls it a hefeweizen. The beer, however, is brewed with a (fairly hefty) portion of lemongrass, which contributes a significant aroma and flavor. Thus we have deemed it a Spice/herb/vegetable and not a German Hefeweizen, which should be free from adjuncts (other than hops).

On tap at Cole’s! Aroma of fruit, spice and wheat, hazy yellow, tiny cream head. Flavour is a great fresh wheat , and some hard to pinpoint spices. Light bodied, refreshing treat. Very good.( I was guessing between a saison or a wiesse.)

12oz. Bottle: Smelled like bread, some lemon, and lemongrass. Aroma was not strong. Poured dark yellow color. Almost an amber. Big, rocky, off-white head. Head lasted. Opaque. Lots of particles. Great lacing. Flavor of lemon, grass, corriander, and some spice and herbs. Also a spicy hop note (maybe Amarillo). Lightly bitter. Medium body. Short, dry finish.

Bottle... Hazy, yellow ale with a small, frothy, white head. The aroma is citrusy and yeasty, but I’m not picking up the spices. Any spicy esters or lemongrass is subtle, not flashy. Tangy, well-bittered flavor with lemon and grapefruit. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Finishes crisp, fruity and lightly bitter. More like an American wheat than hefeweizen to me. Nice and refreshing!

Sampled at the River City Beer and Seafood festival, one of the lamest festivals going, as it has become more and more of a macro fest with frankly substandard seafood offerings over the years. This year’s festival was highlighted by our toddler abruptly puking like a drunken frat boy before I had even gotten through my second sample, prompting a hasty exit, and a delightful evening of taking care of a sick kid. Woohoo! Notes for this jotted hastily in between puking bouts. Thanks to Maniac and Starfireming for the paper. Light wheat aroma, hazy medium gold appearance, decent head faded. Flavor is light wheat, a bit of yeast, and a hint of lemon. Yeah, that’s right, my super-sensitive palate actually picked up the lemon from the lemon grass. Always gratifying to get the occasional confirmation that my palate isn’t totally numb. So-so beer at a so-so festival. Getting harder to feel like wandering downtown for this each year.

Pours a four-fingered white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Almost clear amber color, ton of yeast on bottom of bottle. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Yeasty nose. Starts sweet, some yeast, piney aftertaste. 12 oz bottle, gift from Vintage Cellars Blacksburg, VA. Best by Nov 2006.

Pours a cloudy yellowish color with a medium sized thick white head. Aroma is wheaty with hints of mowed grass and lemon. Flavor is mostly wheat, with hints of wet grass and lemon lime citrus. Average at best.

Bottle from State Line. Turbid off-gold pour, with 2-finger fizzy white head and a lot of floaties and sinkers. The aroma is very hopcitric, including orange zest, lemon, some clove, and soapy tangerines. The flavor is very citric, with a solid pale malt base, and some clovey hops.

12oz bottle: Pours the classic hazy gold with a firm, stubborn cap. The aroma notes ripe banana and bubble gum, with softer kisses of vanilla and citrusy grass. The body is creamy and refreshing, with strong hints of citrus (lemon and orange), wheat and balanced esthers. Finishes a bit dirty, but otherwise a well built wheat.
