Demo is a deliciously dark lick of an India Pale Ale. It’s medley of roasted malts and heady hops will have your senses dancing to the beat of a different IPA.

Blah. A boring black IPA. Aroma was weak. Light roasted malt presence with a hint of coffee. Pour was a deep dark brown that was very still and a one finger off white head. Taste was very thin and weak. There is a strong coffee and roasted malt backbone that never really lets any hops come in. Tastes more like a porter until the hoppy bitter aftertaste grabs the tonsils. Too little too late. Nice cabonation.

Very dark brown pour with a thin beige head. The nose is earthen manure with hints of citrus and pine. An ashy burnt malt character, not unlike the leftovers at the bottom of a frying pan (think burnt toast) comes through as well. The flavor holds more pine and citrus hop notes, though they are not very powerful, which makes it easy for further burnt malt incarnations to come through. The palate is light to medium with a charry finish.

Pours dark brow with plenty of frothy tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate and roasted malts but not much at work here. Flavor again is a bit of chocolate and has woody sourness to it. Tastes similar to a milk stout rather than a Black IPA but whatever. Also tastes a little diluted. Pretty mediocre beer.

An acquired taste. Definitely dark and more stout-like than IPA-like. Hints of coffee.

@ Basunen: Lite maltig doft och inte mycket humle. Mörk kolaaktig smak, lite bränd och inte mycket som påminner om stilen,

Bottle (355 ml) from Systembolaget. Murky reddish brown, brief beige head. Sharp ash-tray roasted aromas with some citric hops. Light in body, fizzy carbonation. Dry with a bit harsh bitterness. Fail.

Pours dark brown with a small, light tan head. Aroma is dominated by roasted malt and smoke. I can’t really pick out any hoppy smells. Taste is somewhat weak, at first light caramel malt sweetness but actually feels watery. Towards the finish, the bitterness starts picking up but it’s more like a lager bitter than an IPA bitter. Body is light, with fairly strong carbonation. I’m wondering if something’s wrong with my bottle because I don’t really know why anyone would willingly brew an IPA to be like this...

Bottle. Pours black with a little head. Very chocolately and malty, not a lot of hops for an IPA. Meh.

It sure takes you by surprise when you read IPA and no other information on the bottle, then pour out a slightly hazy dark brown liquid. As expected, citrus hops dominate the aroma, but only bitterness can shine through the thick haze of darker beer. Not my favorite, or even worthy of approval.

IPA . . . Not so much. Twelve ounce bottle at home. This tastes like a hollow Newcastle. The hop characteristic is too subtle for an ipa, the malt is thin, flavors are too subdued and don’t combine for anything greater. Definitely regret this purchase.
