As much as I hate being drawn in by the label alone, I was. Unfortunately, quirky labels don’t always mean quality beer. I feel like this one was maybe not Magic Hat’s finest release.
Lovely color, a little brown on the nose, lovely aroma, but the taste seems lacking that ’wow’ factor. Darker than anticipated when poured. Little citrus with the hop. The roasted flavors are palatable. Wee bit of caramel in there.
Overall, it’s a decent beer, but nothing special. Drinkable but not excitable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Color is more brown than red, the aroma has some sweet toffee. This is a pretty good amber. Not very heavy, but the right balance of sweetness, caramel and some hops. Overall, I quite like this, especially for the style.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle before the phils game, brown shit pour, cream head. Notes are real bland, malt, hops, and light choc. Not as awful as most magics but how much can you do with an amber.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Night of The Living Dead Variety Pack. Brown with mahogany highlights. Muted aroma, light malt, nutty. Tastes of roasted malt and bitter cocoa powder. Thin, hollow finish. Fizzy carbonation, not good.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
I guess I’m on some kind of morbid roll - the last few days, we picked up a new shipment of Dia de Los Muertos brews with labels that looked like tarot cards, and now we get the Magic Hat Night of the Living Dead Pack. Guess we’re coming into Halloween. Either that or breweries have taken a cue from the cheap tequila distillers that charge a premium for the skull bottles. Anyway -- deep ruby read, clear, thin whitish head. Bad label, standard longneck. An odd malty aroma - sometimes fruity, sometimes sweaty, sometimes peppery, tannic, with dilute cocoa undertones. Astringent, acidic, dry. Tinny aftertaste. Amateur hour. ABC Liquors, Bull Run. Back to back with Coronado Mermaid’s Ale, which won hands down.

Bottle from Publix Supermarket, Kissimmee, Florida. This is a very dark brown beer with chocolate and roasted flavours, slight red fruity notes and a dry, nutty finish.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Roasted malt with caramel ending taste. A bit of malty sweetness countered by a noticeable hop character. The hop bittering leaves a veggie/cucumber in particular flavor in the back half of the taste.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had from the bottle from the night of the living dead 12 pack. Smells almost like a brown ale. Taste of citrus and hops with a bot of malt in the back, good balance and a tasty beer. However, not a very special beer.

12 ounce bottle from the fall mixed packed. Pours a clear dark amber, maple syrup like, with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Faint aroma of toffee and citrus. The taste is citrus hops, nutty notes a bit of toffee. Medium bodied, very slight lingering bitterness.
