Dream Machine, an India Pale Lager or IPL, is a melding of varied visions of an India Pale Ale and an Amber Lager. Once poured, its light copper color delights the eyes and a citrusy hop aroma flows through the nose. Upon first sip, a smooth hop bitterness reveals itself - fresh, bold and slightly spicy - before subtle hints of mild maltiness appear. A big hop bite and a crisp, clean lager finish combine for a beautifully balanced beer. Take Dream Machine for a spin and let your reverie begin.

Not too bad. Mild on the hops. Smooth and sweet. I thought that it had more amber lager qualities and could have used and supported more hops.

Bottle from Wegmans. This is a style Iím usually happy for but Magic Hat underwhelms me 95% of the time. This pours clear golden with a small white head that dissipates in seconds to a small film. The aroma has some faint floral notes, a tad bit of straw. Nothing that makes you think of a significant hop profile. If you would compare this to an IPL like Citra Mantra.. Citra Mantra would be a 700 on the ten scale and this would be a 1. This is basically a slightly hopped lager follows suit with Magic Hats "I Brew Crap" quality.

Bottle at home. Pours clear orange with a medium, frothy and creamy off-white head, medium to long retention with good lacing. Aroma is spicy, herbal and pine hops, pineapple and pear notes, meal and Pils malt. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, light vinous notes, crisp and lightly sweet malt with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

12 oz. bottle poured into shaker. Clear amber color with two fingers of bubbly off-white head. Somewhat muted hop aroma with some bready undertones. Taste seems more towards the lager end of the spectrum, with the signature finish. Itís perhaps a bit hoppier than a typical lager, but not overly so. While thereís certainly nothing wrong with this, Iím not sure I understand the point of an IPL. Of course I used to think the same thing about Belgian IPAís, but Iíve found a few of those I like. I guess what Iím trying to say is "meh".

(Bottle). Pale amber complexion with thin white head. Flavor is a balance of hop and sweet malt. Decent balance. Short of a standout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear, filtered brass/copper body is topped by a moderate amount of off-white head that shows moderate retention.
Pure, simplistic hoppiness in the nose leans heavily to lemon-orange with very little variance/depth. Spongecake and sweet, buttercream certainly noteable on the end, with a touch of cheesiness and heavy breadiness/acidity. Fine, I guess, if a little underwhelmingly simple.
Hard, almost greasy mouthfeel with strong carbonation and sweet, bready, caramel-flavored malts give the heavy-handed hop bitterness a good balance, but taken together itís just too much bitterness and sweetness. Very low depth of flavor, with orange rind, some grapefruit and even a fair amount of pine resin mixing with bready malts leading to way too much astringency. Pretty standard magic hat. Passable, I suppose, and certainly better than most industrial stuff, but not much of a step up, at this point.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma I surprisingly floral hoppy. Flavor is again a decent floral hop. Not much of a malt presence but a guess being a lager they kinda downplayed it. Itís light but definitely showcases the hops. One of Magic Hatís better beers.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden-amber with a small head that fades to a messy ring. Aroma is surprisingly malty. Pale malt, light fruitiness, and grass. Tastes like a grassy lager. Just a touch of red fruit. Fairly strong bitterness in the finish. Not bad but a pretty boring IPL.

Bottle, pours clear copper with a white head. Aroma is clove, pine, sweet malt. Taste is pine, citrus, corn, clean. Bitter dry clean finish with a medium-light body.
