Fat Angel, rest his soul, had a complex palate that balances the rich pleasures of malt with the crisp refreshing flavor of hops with a finish that is fresh and clean. Eminently drinkable, Fat Angel brought divergent tastes together to create a satisfyingly smooth harmony.

Bottle trade with SJ. Not much going on here. Some hop, caramel malt. Thin body. It was ok.

This is a really solid pale ale, with a slight aroma of vanilla, and a nice hop flavor with just a hint of malt.

This was the best and easiest to drink pale ale I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. Never again will you taste a better pale ale.

I’ve walked past this brew countless times at the store and for whatever reason I picked some up today (3-14-2008). Pours a hazy copper/amber with a thin white head that doesn’t last to long. Minimal lacing on the way down. Aroma hits me with some vanilla, some spicy hops, and a bit of caramel in the background. Taste is a watery mix of citrus hops and very minimal malt. Medium to thin body. Overall decent brew, I could see myself drinking a few on a hot summer day, but not great enough to buy on a regular basis.

A: snifter. Nice light mahogany color with a slightly off-white head. Decent head retention, and a fair amount of lacing. S: aroma is of sweet malts and honey. A strong sense of honey. It almost has the aroma of sweet iced tea. Also has a strong aroma of caramel. T: very solid malt backbone, good caramel malts. Some iced tea characteristics. The hops are way in the back, with some solid earthy tones with a hint of citrus. M: good palate, but a little watery. Carbonation level is a little low. Boy is a little thicker than expected. D: I could drink this forever, but it does wear a little thin. A good staple.

Had this back in twenty-aught-six: Hazy, golden orange color. Slight head but with a nice lace. Cloudy and hazy. Little carbonation. Strong, sweet malt smell but with a slight hop background. Malt dominates. Very minor apricot smell. Strong yeast flavor, but with a malty base. Has a hit of hops that offsets the malt. Very bitter hop accent, but still dominated by hops. Three-headed monster: yeast, then malt, then hops. (And with that hint of apricot.) Medium-body, almost a dry feel. Has a strange, ashy feel, like an ashtray. Flatter-than-normal, but an ale. A decent, somewhat fruity brew. Fruity, sweet malt with a tiny bitter jab.

Bottle. 12 oz. Pours hay blonde with a moderate, slightly fizzy white head. Aroma of hops, wheat, sweet malts, and odd little hints of funk and bubblegum. Medium to thin bodied with a crisp, refreshing, semi-tart finish. Decent brew.

A smooth and medium bodied pale ale with a light, malty flavor. Nothing special.

Transfer review. Hazy gold color, somewhere between straw yellow and a lighter shade of amber. Very silky wet head, easily separates into dallops. Cool. Nose is reminiscent of an artificial sweetener in soda pop. Flavor has a distinct bubble gum flavor, and this is not because the beer is bad. It really has a bubble gum taste. Some metallic hops at the end but you don’t notice it. Instead you’re asking yourself if you had bubble gum earlier in the day or if the beer is bad. Easy to drink. Might be a good beer to give to the wife or girlfriend, or both.
