2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: SEP 9, 2008 I was a little disappointed with this from Magic Hat. Pours a copper color with a medium to thick white head and a decent amount of lacing on the glass. Some apricot, hops and overall sweet, as most Magic Hat beers are on the sweet side, with a bitter finish. There are plenty of other beers from Magic Hat that are much better.

Fat Angel by Magic Hat. What can I say? Its original and distinctivly different. Which is what Magic Hat is great at. Full bodied, sweet, malty, and complex. A great beer.

Glad I got to try it on tap at the brewery in Burlington before it was retired, even though it wasn’t really a great beer. Anyway, it was served cold on tap. Poured medium brown and had an aroma of...I don’t know, it was actually really weak. You could taste the hops alright but the malts weren’t all that present. It was an okay beer but certainly not Magic Hat’s best. It won’t be sorely missed.

altogeather it was refreshing lightly hoppy and a bit watery. with adequate tastes it was decent. the malt was ok i guess and the beer was a weak interpretation of some of the good qualities of a pale ale (for an american brewer. for an english brewer it was quite flavorful and quite enjoyable for the lack of sweetness +2 points for that!)

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
To me this is very much like #9, with more complexity and a little stronger hop notes. Tastes like a pale ale with, hints of spice & orange. Overall a decent beer sorry to see it’s being retired.

You know, it was alright but not my favorite. 12 ounce bottle. Poured a medium dark brown if that makes sense. Not alot of head, no real lacing. Some hops, didn’t really get the malt. It was alright but not the best. Maybe it should be retired.

It had a decent color and aroma but failed to get my attention as I drank it. It was mediocre and nothing seemed to make me think about it while I drank it.

Bottle. orange color, offwhite head. Quite weak aroma. Fruity hoppy flavor but really not that much to taste in it.

Just a general comment on this one -- it’s so light and smooth that it nearly gets away with its lack of substance. Truthfully, this beer is probably not as bad is its rating, but for folks looking for a nice bitter English ale, they will not find much in common with the Brit lines of the same style.
