Strong, flavorful, and slightly bitter - almost reminiscent of an imperial stout. Coffee and chocolate notes, with a roasty flavor. Very dark brown in color, almost black.

Overall, this has too much coffee for my taste, much more in the body than in the aroma. Definitely comes across as quite heavy.

Pours an inky black with about a head of tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is chocolatey with some decent hop bitterness. Decently thick mouthfeel. Pretty average for a stout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed 12/18/2012. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark brown color with good opacity. The one finger tan colored head fades quick, unfortunately.
S: Roasted barley, licorice, hazelnut, and bittersweet chocolate. Itís a typical stout aroma with little deviation from the norms of the style, but the execution is good.
T: This seems to be fairly licorice dominated, with the roasted malts sneaking up on the finish. Surprisingly, it has a touch of complexity to it, with occasional hints of coffee, raisins, and chocolate. Itís not blowing me away, but I still enjoy it.
M: A very clean stout in general. The thick and creamy body gives way to both dryness and a lingering roasted aftertaste, alongside a touch of astringency. Far from the heaviest stout in the world - but it doesnít try to be.
O: Really not bad at all. I tend to avoid Magic Hat, but this oneís good/cheap enough for me to possibly consider getting a 6 pack of.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Part of a sampler six pack.
Very black with a nice one finger tan head that lasted the whole glass and left good lacing.
Aroma is chocolate, coffee, some roastiness, butterscotch, and a little molasses.
Flavor is very nice. The chocolate is milky, thereís some nice roasty malt character with a little burnt, a little coffee, and a lightly bitter finish.
Body is pretty thick and rich, yet easy to drink, with a dry finish and smooth creamy carbonation.
A damn fine beer. Iíll have to see if they have sixers of this one at my local store.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer is black with a fleeting tan head, and the aroma is made up of roasty, coffee, and chocolate malts. The taste is mildly sweet and lightly bitter, but the heartiness and fullness of this beer cannot be denied. It also has an oily yet creamy texture, a nearly flat carbonation, and a long finish.
