I am really glad they brought this one back. Roasted malty aroma with just a slight bitter hop taste. Definitely good stuff.

Ahh, Magic Hat. We meet again. So what have we here? A stout? Full of odd and terrible ingredients to test my fortitude? No? Just a normal stout? Well, this is unexpected. Letís see... Not bad. Not great, either, but certainly not bad.

A bubbly tan head on top, with nots of roasted barley and chocolate. Earthy smells of leaves and wood are on the nose. A nice balanced finish of malt and fizz.

12oz bottle. Vintage 2012. Black pour, thin brown ring of foam. Roasted barley aroma starts off simple, then some chocolate. Earthy Autumn leaves hop nose. Wow, hearty flavors. Nice char character, loads of roast. Burnt cereal flavors, licorice bitterness, wooded tannins bitterness, some hidden Chocolate Malt. Light caramel malt sweetness. Bold flavors. One of the best Magic Hat beers Iíve had. (3544)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nearly jet black; big, dark, thick head. Moderate lacing down the glass. Aroma doesnít give the impression of a "big" stout but is predominantly roasty malt, with some coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor is a little thin; roast, licorice, not particularly bitter, finishing mostly roast and chocolate though not terribly sweet. Palate; medium thickness, relatively coarsely carbonated. Very solid everyday stout, but Magic Hatís Ravell is significantly more impressive.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: pours dark brown with a dens cap of tan foam.
Aroma: Roasty dark malt. Classic stout so far.
Taste: Very pronounced roast, black coffee, chocolate, light peppery spice bite in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied , spicy carbonation.
Overall: A delicious stout. In researching this beer, I found out they used to use oats in the malt bill. The beer is so chocolaty and nice, I would love it to be smoothed out with some oats or nitro or both.

A very nice pouring really dark beer. Cleanish stout olfactory. Wew, a little strong at first but I think it starting to mellow immediately. Perhaps borders on imp stout on the slug but each swig has the same metamorphis; strong impact followed by a smoothing effect. Roasty partially burned old campire wood after a breif wet rain. Dense but not thick.
