beerbill (1149), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 7, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy golden amber with a moderate yellow-white head that disappeared after about a quarter of the glass. Light aroma of pine and a few very light notes of citrus. The flavor starts out with some weak malt, which is followed by a thin pine flavor. This beer lacks the resinous body associated with pine in better-made beers. Thin and lacks depth. No citrus in the flavor at all. Bitter at the finish. A disappointing IPA. chandler0201 (88), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 6, 2008 Good IPA. I enjoyed the orange aromas and flavor. Somewhat hoppy and somewhat bitter as well. Rather light for an IPA, and somewhat refreshing. Pwn3d (575), NYC, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 If anyone was to say Magic Hat is overrated, it would be me. Not the class with Hi.P.A. This beer pours a yellow slightly hued body with retaining white head. Nose could be more hoppy, and less like a spiced lager. The taste is overcourse hoppy, a good amount of florals but never overwhelming or overdone. 6.8% surprised me- no alcohol is noticeable. Sessionable and very smooth, leaves a nice oily floral tang in the mouth. A very good IPA 3.65 Oakes (6779), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Golden-bronze. Spicy hops with a hint of florals and bready malts. On the palate, these malts provide firm backing and have a noticeable toastiness. The hops are more subdued, with a moderate bitterness. The character is spicy, with light wood and orange peel. The finish is balanced and off-dry. Burps with a spicy hop character. bubbleflubber (625), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jun 28, 2008 Not a bad Magic Hat offering here. Pours an orange-tea into the glass, with an offwhite head that reduces to a small cap, leaving soapy lace. The nose has some citrus, ever-so-slightly candied, with a floral backing. The flavors have definite citrus overtones, not a lot of malt backing, and some nice pine in the finish. The bitter lasts a decent time, and dries out accordingly. The mouthfeel is lively (subdued nicely) and slick. This has a nice quaff, lending to decent drinkability. Nothing super complex, but I’ve certainly had worse IPA’s in my day.
