[draught] Anyone that has tried a number of Magic Hat beers is all too familiar with that "Magic Hat taste" - I’m not quite sure what it is (maybe it’s hemp or some crap), but it’s there, and sometimes it works, and other times it doesn’t - well this beer tastes like nothing BUT that "Magic Hat taste" - I can’t understand it, there are no other flavors detectable, besides a moderate amount of hops - it really is the damnedest thing.

For a one-off from MH, this brew was a little disappointing. A bit strong at 6.8ABV, but for an IPA, I'd take Blind Faith.

Jeebus christ Magic Hat, I wanted a beer not a yeast sample. Straight up one on appearance for clumps of yeast floating around in bottle. Don’t be fooled, its just plain sloppy brewing. Aroma is mildly citrus but faint. Some hoppy brightness but some soapyness as well. Not very impressed at all.

I have no idea how this beer is getting such high ratings from y’all. on tap at the BrickSkellar . though the aroma was not offensive and made me slightly hopeful-it was a murky yellow-orangish color which looked like watered down eggs cracked into the glass. it tasted flat and bitter.

IPA’s are not one of my favorite types of beer but I tryed to keep an open mind about this one. It has nice color, slightly orange, and the smell was nice and fresh in the the glass. But the first taste was a total shock, it is soo hoppy that the flavor of the beer is totally lost and the finish is bitter and just way too harsh. Kind of a chemical aftertast. I finished the glass but I will not drink another one.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2007 Had this on tap at the Trivia Pub in Moon. Yes, this has the typical pellucid IPA color, which is slightly darker than the wonted pale yellow american beers. Aroma? I can’t smell much but it’s probably because of the two cigar smokers nearby. I do pick up some fruity hops, but just barely. Let me expound on the flavors. IPA is not my cup of tea but this is not as IPA – ish as most IPA. I just had an amber ale that was more bitter grapefruit than this. For most high end big beer raters on this site, a beer like this may taste a bit watered-down. For me, it makes it more enjoyable; the flavors of IPA without the jackbooted medicinal qualities. This beer is bonhomie, probably one of the most tolerable IPAs I’ve tasted and I’ve tasted a few. There are slightly fruity acceptable grapefruit peel flavors on my palate. The finish is not as coarse as I expected from an IPA. I’m not sure if this should be classified as an IPA. The worst IPAs I’ve had are Blue Point Hoptical Illusion and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale this is much more acceptable than those. Up till now my highest rated IPA was Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and East End Big Hop IPA. The anti de trop flavor of this magic hat now makes it my favorite among a style that I can care less for.

I enjoy the hoppy beginning and the flavor, but the aftertaste really bothers me. It has an overly piney, almost metallic aftertaste. If the aftertaste could be avoided I would really like it, but I will probably not buy this one again.

For the IPA’s that I’m use to I was dissapointed but most magic hat beers are lower in taste. Don’t get me wrong I’d drink it again but it wasn’t anything that made my mouth curl. The hoppy flavor was fairly weak and the color was dissapointing.

it’s an ipa so it’s pretty hoppy, but high alcohol content! bitter taste not that great...

(On tap Great Lost Bear - Portland,ME). Not sure what the heck was supposed to be going on with this one. Very thin body, proper orange color, no head to speak of. So chemically bitter that I had to ask if the lines were clean. I'll chalk this up to an aberration, but I am most definitely not impressed.
