COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hi.P.A. is a medium-bodied groove with a fresh and fruitful nose of tympanic temptation. It begins and ends with a big hop bite that is itself forever balanced on the brink by a steady rhythm of malt. Dry-hopped for extra quenching in the face of heat and beat, it’s an ideal accompaniment to chilling out, turning inward or sailing onward through the music of the night toward the dawn of the mind. It’s the liquid way to say be here now lest you never come this way again.

muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - MAY 30, 2003
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 May 2003: Cloudy bright orange-amber, very little head, slight ring remains. Strong grapefruit arom with hints of cherries, lovely and enticing. Also some strange cheesiness as it warms; very interesting to be sure on the nose. Very very clean and smooth, something I used to appreciate more when I was an IPA (and hops) novice. Tasty, citrusy, certainly lets you know you’re drinking an IPA, but ultimately not in the class of the serious monsters in the field. Good burping action. 22 oz bottle. 8/3/7/4/15 3.7

March 2006, 12 oz bottle, Allagash glass, cellar temperature. Gorgeous full, fluffy white head, slow-diminishing leaving thick lace, burnished brass color...big floral nose, dogwood and lilac beautifying the typical citric & sprucy character....big hop attack in the body, but fruity sweetness is there at the same time soothing the throat as the acidic hops terrorize it....a bit too dry and woody at the end for absolute wonderment, but this is a very solid, perhaps top-notch effort, a hophead’s delight and one of this brewer’s best at the moment.

Poured into a snifter. Golden to orange opaque with a finger of head. The aroma is amazing. Smell it a mile away; rough citrus, honey, Upfront biting bitter that is unrelenting throughout. The smell led to to think that there would be a substantial malt balance... nope. Still, it is a good tasting, if blunt IPA. Fairly crisp with a smoothness to it. Moderate carbonation and medium bodied. I really like the aroma. The rest of it was solid IPA.

Pours nearly clear pale orange with a scant but lacy head, Bits of citrus, toffee and fruit in the nose, and those themes carry over to the taste. Sort of an interesting caramel and pine finish. A little astringent on the finish. One of the maltier IPAs I’ve tried.

Nice heavy IPA. My favorite brew by Magic Hat. Really wish they would brew this more than #9

The beer is poured to medium amber in color, with hints of gold along the sides of the glass. A half inch high head forms on top, which is cream in color. There is a slight scent of cracked grain at the start. Then the strong aroma of citrus strikes the nose. That is followed by grass and pine fragrances at the end. The surprising flavor of bread is at the front of each taste, followed by a yeasty twang. It then blends itself to strong grapefruit bitterness, then ending with an earthy flavor. The feel is medium bodied, most of the way through. There is the slight feel of oiliness halfway, but does not deter the strong dry finish. This is beer is a hop heads go to beer, strong aroma, along with the big hoppy flavor; make this a beer for any occasion.

Light amber, 2 finger head that leaves light lacing. Smell is dominated by the hops with pine and citrus (mainly grapefruit) standing out. Taste is bitter grapefruit with a little bit of pine and herbal hop flavors. Not extremely hoppy for an IPA, but has a solid bitterness without a lot of sweet to balance. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Similar to other Magic Hat brews, with heavier hoppy aroma and flavors. Complex hoppy/floral/fruity flavors. Moderately bitter finish. Quite drinkable. It didn’t give me a headache. Yay!

Hay, whole orange, and grapefruit peel, with lilly accents. A little stale, but quite nice. Cloudy amber, thin head, fine floaties, some lacing. Slightly vegetal floral flavor, lillies with the green stems. Rosehips also present. Fizzy. Dry and bitter, but not necessarily resinous. Decent.

12 fl oz bottle from Bear World (Watertown), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Hazy, flecked golden with a nice off-white head. Aroma: Strong pine/resin, quite lemony and citric, sweet biscuit, fairly fruity with apricots, peaches, passion fruit, esters, some bitter green herbs, some caramel sweetness, spicy, peppery, nice. Palate: Medium+ body, fairly full, creamy effervescence. Flav.: Really fruity, tropical, assertive esters, bananas, pineapple, a little minty bubble gum, a bit of pine/resin, caramel and sweetness, biscuit and bread crust, really good; lightly sweet with good bitterness and a pine, caramel and fruity, tropical finish.

Nice and orignal.
