COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast’s longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds with winter-weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows. In its darkened depths our inner voids are warmed. 12.0° Plato

Pours very dark with a soft brown head that laces nicely. Smells of black coffee. Tastes of cold coffee - very nice. A bit on the thin side, but still a pleasant surprise.

A very dark brown, rather than black beer. Opaque, with a thin but durable tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts and spicy hops, with hints of dark fruits, chocolate and spices. Aroma is a tad too earthy. The flavor is a bit stronger than the aroma suggests, although there is little flavor from hops. Not unpleasant light hint of charcoal/smoke. Finishes with a long-lasting, roasted malt aftertaste. Taste improves and gets richer with warming. Medium to medium-light body and carbonation. {from Dec. 2011 notes}

12oz. bottle. Malty, somewhat grainy aroma of black bread, mild roast, toasted nut and faint dark chocolate. Hazy dark brown in color, seemingly bottle conditioned, with a fine, uneven, lasting khaki head, lace is minimal. Dark, lightly roasty, biscuity and chocolate malts dominate the flavor profile, with a touch of dark sweetness appearing towards the finish. Late there is a very faint degree of bitterness, otherwise the hop presence is minimized. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel, body is medium. Easygoing and fairly flavorful rendition of this style, if somewhat unremarkable.

One of the better beers from magic hat. Good rich flavors for the winter season.

Bottle. Taste is charred wood, malt and a subtle hit of chocolate. Not too bad for a lager.

Pours black with a whitish head. No nose to speak of. Taste is of roasted malts, a hint of coffee, and some bitter hops on the finish. It's alright. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2013 Magic Hat Howl, indeed........your ASS will be HOWLING the blues my friend. When drinking this swill I wanted a "MAGIC HAT" that would transmute this beverage of ill-repute into the BEVERAGE OF GLORY: BLATZ! ’Twas not to be. This stuff while better than average junk, is still junk. Or not. If Fred Sanford wouldn’t drink this stuff, it is fair to say neither should you, you BIG DUMMY! Save your dollars and invest wisely my thirsty friends.....that’s right.....over there....in the Budget aisle....Blatz...or Hamm’s....or Schlitz....or Pabst. If you have this stuff on hand keep it for your "friends"....the friends who throw you under the bus. THOSE kinds of "friends"!

This very nice bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a beautiful very large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a typically carbonated semi-opaque dark brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The weak aroma was dark malt. The semi-thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of mild roasted malt chocolate and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

Bottle gift from my nephew Mathew. This definitely has a roasted burnt malt flavor. A little thin in body, but it had some character.

Very mild light dark pour. No head. Corn, band-aid and oats. Hint of chocolate. Very dry and old taste up front. lots of band-aid in this. Some chocolate and maple and brown sugar. Dry finish.
