3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Magic Hat. Pours a red-Amber with a white head. Nose is some malt, toast, slight fruit, some plum, and a dry yeast. Flavor is similar with toast, malt, slight plum, and mild fruit. Light in body and a nice Irish red overall.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle with best by date of 30 Nov. 2011 (from 9/2011 notes).
A- Pours a lovely red brown with about 1 finger of short-lived off-white head. Leaves some nice lacing that quickly slides down the sides of my wet glass.
S- Aroma has a roasted malt scent that is would be pleasant, but there are too many alcohol esters (I know: with only 4.8% ABV!) given the weak strength of the other components.
The taste is much better. As expected, it primarily features a medium roasted malt flavor, but there are some spicy hops in the mix. The dynamics are unusual, however, with the hops becoming a little less pronounced in the finish which is where the toasted malt flavor comes through most clearly. In any case, a fine finish nicely shaped by both the Apollo hops and the malts.
M - medium bodied beer, although off on the thin side a bit, with good carbonation; a mild bite of carbonation/hops on the tongue. Rather dry finish.
O - This is a fine red ale: Even though it is weak in aroma, it has excellent flavor, is moderately refreshing, and is a pleasure to drink.

Bottled. Poured deeper garnet with a tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up nutty and chocolate notes with deeper dark fruit (prune-like).. very assertive with the sweetness.. weird. The flavor found cocoa, molasses, and maple at the core with light earthy notes laced throughout.. tacky malts on the finish. Lighter-bodied and watery at times on the palate.. on the sweet side.. OK overall feel and flow.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured into a pint glass. Deep red color, though almost transparent. A half finger of off-white head that fell down quickly.
A wet malty smell, almost musty.
Not really impressed with the taste. Kind of "meh". A watery taste followed by a blunted sweetness.
Light bodied, almost no carbonation and smooth.
Not bad tasting, just nothing really going on. Meh.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Toasty malts are the main player here. Brick red with a nice off-white head. Good light sweet malts, a bit of fruit, too. It drank well but was one of those beers that I forgot about during a conversation. It just didn’t hold my attention after the first few swigs. Solid.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear russet with a soft, creamy, off-white head. Pretty classic Irish Ale aroma: caramel, toasty malts, leaves. Light sweet flavor, wet leaves, dull caramel, toast, mild bitterness. Light bodied with fine, tingly carbonation. Faintly dry and sweet to finish, leafy bitterness, slight semi-dark fruits, toasty malts. Very basic beer but not offensive in any way, really.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brownish color pour with a head that fades rapidly. Plain ol beery aroma. Friendly initial low alky malty taste makes this presentable. Decent amount of co2 on the palate. Comes across a little creamy. Yes, friendly and rather easy. I was expecting something overly malty for some reason but this is not too bad! Picking up some carob in there I think. Good overall beer experience. Probably could drink a few of these at a stiing. More like a mild ale.

One of the tastier Irish Ale’s I’ve tried. Red, nice looking, very malty and rich, with malt notes such as toffee, sugar, sweet but not too sweet. Very well done session ale.
