3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shigadeyo (2394) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - SEP 18, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2009 9/18/2007: Jinx pours a caramelized brown color with a large, fluffy, beige head that is long-lasting and creates good lacing. The aroma has a good caramelized sugar on top of of sweet apples. The flavor also has a slight applesauce quality to it in the front. It then has a good caramelized maltiness and good smoky flavor. I really like the smoke in the finish. The smokiness of this beer really complements the slightly sweet and caramel and the fruitiness of the malt. There is even a bit of chocolate that comes through here and there. Nice. This medium-bodied beer has a smooth and creamy body. According to the cap, "Beer is good food." This beer is pretty good and delivers a fairly satisfying fill.
3/4 pint bottle from Magic Hat mixed 12-pack purchased and Bigg’s Hypermarket in Harrison, Ohio. Rating #342 for this beer...
9/26/2007: Magic Hat Jinx is clear brown in color with a diminishing off-white head. The aroma has maple syrup, light molasses, roasted malts, and a faint peat-like smoke. The flavor is toasty and nutty with plenty of caramel. There also seems to be some grainy alcohol characteristic. This medium-bodied beer is smooth. This is kind of a weird, difficult to describe beer, but it is also hard to put down!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thornecb (2961) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 17, 2008
Pours brown into a shaker. Off-white micro head leaves little lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Smoke aromas. Caramel and hickory from front to back. Slightly thin in the middle with a lasting dry smokey medicinal finish.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 WickerBrew (311) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 15, 2008
I wasnt getting a whole lot of smoked flavor, but thats a good thing. This is one of the best Magic Hats ive had, this one has some backbone. Kind of a muddy look to it thats not so good though. The high ABV definetly hit me, so thats a good thing too.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ChainGangGuy (3682) - Canton, Georgia, USA - SEP 12, 2008
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2008 Purchased as part of the Participation Variety 12-Pak at Total Wine in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy, medium brown body with a thin layer of off-white head.
Smell: Smokey, earthy peat nose with notes of caramel malt, aged lemon zest, roast (just a bit, though!) and fruits.
Taste: Pale and caramel malts with a small hint of roast and bog peat. Fair amount of grillside smokiness. Light citrusy hops with a small amount of hop bitterness. Slight raisin and black cherry fruitiness. Some herbal hints come and go. Dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s so-so, it’s okay, but geez, that label is a bit on the creepy side.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Flyer (118) - Hartland, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 10, 2008
A fairly standard amber ale with some nice smokiness, but some issues as well. Amber color with a minimal head. The flavor is solid, some caramel and smoke, but the aftertaste has a very soapy, cleaning fluid, vaguely perfumey quality. A bit of an alcohol burn, which is neither a negative nor, in this case, much of a positive. What’s good is not original, and what’s original is not good.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 oteyj (1753) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 7, 2008
Pours reddish brown with minimal head. Aroma is slightly smokey with roasty qualities of a dry stout. Flavor is much the same, with smokey aspects from prevalent.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 elihapa (1369) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - SEP 6, 2008
bottle. Pours a dark amber with a fast-receding head. Aroma is heavy on caramel malt and dark fruit, I think I smelled alcohol in the aroma as well, which was off-putting given the low alcohol in this brew. Flavor is malty, with not too much going on here. Some faint spice traces, maybe even some roasts round out Jinx. Fairly tasty for Magic Hat, but palate could use some bolstering.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 badlizard (4348) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 6, 2008
Greetings from Virginia. Brown with a fizzy white head. Brown sugar and molasses aroma. Thick rich citrus and molasses taste with a grainy finish.
