Commercial Description:
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

nose of wild turkey and smoke. the first of my sampler 12 pack that doesnt look like a urine sample, nice dark amber. nearly brown, but still not opaque...seems to be the mark of the smoke. smoke makes its prescence known with a sweetness, immediately bringing thoughts of my appetite to mind. no competition or even a companion for a real rauchbier but not half bad! espically for the drivel that magic hat produces. a daring beer thats executed at least half well, far from a total failure...in the context of my previous samplings of their wares that is enough to push it well beyond ’average’.

rusty amber under a large creamy off-white head. malty aroma more of a chocolate scent than smoke. flavor is moderately smoked with milk chocolate and a meaty character of grilled hot dogs. medium bodied. a better one from magic hat.

(Bottle). Sweet and sour aroma, not altogether pleasant. Dark orange amber color with small off-white head. Flavor definitely has smokiness, and some malts and hops. But the balance isn’t there. No match for Schlenkerla.

Draft. Free pint last friday night at Hop House in Pittsburgh. I am certainly glad that I didn’t pay for it. Beautiful deep mahogany color. Aroma is somewhat sweet, but there is something that I can’t quite define in the background. Flavor is....well... a little odd. Like the aroma I can’t quite define it, but I find it unpleasant.

Bottle 08’. Mossy, sweet, dank nose. Roasted carmel pour with thin off white head. Sweet and big bodied. It is not heavily smoked compared to Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock I tired several days ago. That’s one to go for if you want the BBQ and beef jerkey flavors. This is the best Magic Hat that I’ve had thus far.

Smells earthy with some sweet malt notes. Tastes nice and malty, very smooth and tasty.

Had from the bottle and poured into a pint glass. It is a hazy amber color with a nice big head. This brew smells very sweet and fruity. The sweetness had me thinking this was more of a brown then a smoked but what do I know. It was nice and smooth on the palate but again, just a but too sweet. I felt it to me a nice fall beer though. Very enjoyable.

Sampled at the Flour City Brewers’ Fest 2008. Magic Hat Jinx is a hazy amber ale with a huge, fluffy, cream coloerd head. The retention and lacing are excellent. It has a bready aroma with a touch of sweetness and roastiness. It is medium bodied, smooth and slightly metallic in the mouth. The finish is sharp. It has a well balanced flavor; slightly sweet with a touch of caramel and a slightly alkaline note. It beats #9.
