Commercial Description:
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

This is a smoked? Seriously? WTF. Darkish pour, kind of spicey fruity aroma. Taste has decent alcohol and a bit of hops, the fruity flavor almost becomes sickly sweet, seeming kind of fake.

Magic Hat Brewery night at Three Cellars Milwaukee. Very good light smoked. Good flavor and balance.

Pours a clear glowing reddish/dark brown, kind of the color of maple syrup, with a small off-white head. Light smoke aroma, some light bacon and rich toasty malt. First taste is better than expected, smokey salty bacon, sweet toasted malt, as well as some sour grains and alcohol. Medium body, a bit syrupy in the finish, standard carbonation. Surprisingly good and resembles the Bamberg style well.

Poured a dark brown. Light head. Smell remeniscent of a smoked sausage, slight toffee/mocha. Flavor similar, but really mild on the smoke. This is not a bad thing at all though. Kind of peaty, earthy. I think this is very drinkable and sessionable. The best of the few I’ve had from Magic hat. Just had the 2008 jinx. Had about half of the flavors at about half the intensity. Worthy of about half the rating, so 1.7ish.

Pours a murky syurpy dark brown color with a small fizzy tan head that disapates to near nothing. Nose is mild, caramel, sugar, fruits, touch of smoke. Initial taste is burnt caramel, nuts, sweet, touch of smoke. Definitely more like brown ale than classified smoke. This does not qualify as a smoke, plain pathetic. Palate duration is average. Light to medium body. Smooth, but lacking its true represented characteristics.

The aroma is fantastic with chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, nuts, and a hint of smoke. The appearance is chestnut with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate is smooth. Overall I like it but it lacks depth.

Really didn’t like this one very much. Had some weird off tastes. I may have had a bad bottle, but I don’t see what the fuss is about.

9/10/2004. Just sampled this on tap at our local pub. Pours a dark brown color, with a hint of red. Actually, let it be noted that my buddy ordered a Newcastle and this beer looked exactly like a Newcastle. Color, head, lace... all the same. The flavor is very malty, smokey, burned and sweet. There’s a good amount of flavor here. Turns a little bitter in the finish. Pretty good beer for the fall, but nothing too exceptional.
