dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 28, 2008 Updated: Oct 9, 200812 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Clear brown pour with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. Caramel aroma with notes of smoke and banana. Banana caramel taste with a very nutty flavor imparted by the smoke. Medium bodied. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Mar 10, 2008 Sept. 2007 - Beer pours chestnut brown with red highlight, nice head but no lacing. Aroma of malts and nuts. Flavor was lightly smokey with caramel malts and a nuttiness and roastiness remiscient of a brown ale. Sort of like it can’t make up its mind if it wants to be a brown ale or a scottish ale. Not a bad little beer. SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 An average beer, not sure that I would go out of my way to buy it again, but I might give it a try if it were readily available. A light touch of smoke, but not all together fitting with this type of beer. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Mar 4, 2008 There is a touch of smoke. Their are also other flavors of cola burnt cocoa and a soapy like flavor. Overall it decent but not totally memorible rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 3, 2008 Bottle. AMber/orange color, small head. Rather sweet smoky aroma. Malty smoky flavor with some caramel and maybe toffee notes. Hoppy finish. n0superman (7), Piscataway, New Jersey, USA does not count Feb 22, 2008 Bottle, pours cloudy reddish brown with thin white head that quickly disappears. First thing you notice is smoky taste with considerable sweetness, then a watery feel if you concentrate on it. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 19, 2008 12 oz bottle, from the in-laws beer fridge. Pours a hazy dark ruby body under a one finger fizzy almost white head that faded quickly to a wispy film. The nose is just lightly smoky with some toasted malt below and a very light touch of hops. The flavor is actually more smoky than I expected from Magic Hat, not overpowering like Aecht beers, but it’s the centerpiece of the beer for sure. The finish brings out the sweeter toasted malt notes and a light bitterness. Lingering peat note that I wish were stronger, but still the dominant characteristic. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a watery texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, a nice Smoked for the masses, it’s a nice intro to the style, but probably not a huge draw for the hardcore Smoked beer lover like I am. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Feb 10, 2008 not bad, not great. pours average amber in color, with like aroma. taste is a little appely/earthy/sweetish. not a bad session beer, but not something that i would brag about to my friends.
