COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

The aroma is fantastic with chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, nuts, and a hint of smoke. The appearance is chestnut with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate is smooth. Overall I like it but it lacks depth.

Really didn’t like this one very much. Had some weird off tastes. I may have had a bad bottle, but I don’t see what the fuss is about.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2008 9/10/2004. Just sampled this on tap at our local pub. Pours a dark brown color, with a hint of red. Actually, let it be noted that my buddy ordered a Newcastle and this beer looked exactly like a Newcastle. Color, head, lace... all the same. The flavor is very malty, smokey, burned and sweet. There’s a good amount of flavor here. Turns a little bitter in the finish. Pretty good beer for the fall, but nothing too exceptional.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2008 12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Clear brown pour with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. Caramel aroma with notes of smoke and banana. Banana caramel taste with a very nutty flavor imparted by the smoke. Medium bodied.

Sept. 2007 - Beer pours chestnut brown with red highlight, nice head but no lacing. Aroma of malts and nuts. Flavor was lightly smokey with caramel malts and a nuttiness and roastiness remiscient of a brown ale. Sort of like it can’t make up its mind if it wants to be a brown ale or a scottish ale. Not a bad little beer.

An average beer, not sure that I would go out of my way to buy it again, but I might give it a try if it were readily available. A light touch of smoke, but not all together fitting with this type of beer.

Bottle. AMber/orange color, small head. Rather sweet smoky aroma. Malty smoky flavor with some caramel and maybe toffee notes. Hoppy finish.
