| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2007 From a bottle. Pours a brownish/redish color with off white head. Sweet aroma. Tastes of light smoke, roasty malts, and some raisins and other dark fruits. Something about that little guy winking at me makes me enjoy this beer even more. tgncc (809), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Yeasty aroma, no smokiness whatsoever. Cloudy ruby red appearance. Taste is yeasty, earthy, slight sweetness left on the palate. Not bad, but not great, and definitely not one of the better smoked malt beers. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2007 Bottle (rating from a while ago-found on receipt that had been through washer!). Pours dark, brown, some reddish qualities, and a medium off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, earthy, roasty, and a bit of wheat. Flavor is yeasty--tastes like a dunklebock to me, not getting any smoke flavor, rich, but not memorable. Aftertaste of earthiness... Okay, but not that great. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Pours a thick, fluffy, almost light head largely consisting of microbubbles w/ some larger bubbles in the center (into a lager glass) yielding a light amber color. The aroma is sweet and salty and really reminds me of Alka Seltzer (I like Alka Seltzer). Sometimes the bottles contain a bit of sediment, but do not let that put you off. The aroma is persistently detectable, which is an oddity for me and my weak nose. The flavor is spicy and fleeting, a hint of bitterness and a a taste of sweetness. I used to treat this beer as a hefeweizen and drink it with wings, but lately I do not see the point. I think this is a fun beer to drink and is mild, which a lot of people could appreciate. I would have no problem drinking this on a weekly basis. IrishBoy (2705), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2007 Bottle from Grumpybrewer. Pours a deep mahogany with cherry hues and a beige head. Aroma of stale malts and leather. Medium bodied with a subtle spritzy carbonation. Initial flavor of tobacco and caramel that transitions a very subtle smoky middle, with accents of maple and spicy hops. Very slight astringency on the finish. Comes across more like a scotch ale, and a very average one due to the macro like texture and mouthfeel.
