wj94 (64), Virginia, USA Dec 5, 2007 Can’t really tell if this is supposed to be a stout, porter, or what.....smoky flavor, dark brown appearance - nearly black. A little nutty, mouthfeel is pretty crappy. Sort of a micro that wants to be a macro and can’t make up its mind. Average. Drjohnrock (95), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 1, 2007 Twelve ounce bottle courtesy of my friend Mr. K. Dark amber color, sweet aroma, beige head, light sweet mostly malty taste with no smokey elements I could detect. Still, not bad. scottw86 (180), Maryland, USA Nov 29, 2007 Poured a very murky brown. Aromas of smoke and fruit. Flavor was smoky, with a touch of red grapes. Not too much complexity, but an interesting taste. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Nov 25, 2007 Medium-dark translucent orange-brown body, slightly hazy, thin off-white head. Aroma of tobacco, toast, grapes (red wine), and moderate acidity. Toasty body with light tannic red grapes and medium chocolate notes, a touch nutty. I didn’t even realize this was a smoked beer. Light to medium body lacks complexity. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 22, 2007 3/4 pint, bbe Dec 07. Dark copper-brown and hazy. Small head is persistent. Earthy-spiced wood and malt aroma. Flavor is roasty nut, earthy spice, slight pepper zing, and dried wood. Palate is medium-bodied, smooth, a little spicy-tingly, and dry. Barely detected the smoke until the glass was nearly empty. Nice beer that would fare better in the Scotch Ale (or American Strong) category. dp (512), uniontown, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2007 never had a smoked before, didn’t expect this, a deep alcohol based taste, some sweetness after-taste, would enjoy this around a fire with burning leaves, this one grows on you waolsen (1218), Littleton, Colorado, USA Nov 15, 2007 bottle. hazy mahogony with thn frothy off white head. sweet thick chocolate frosting, candy bar and mild smoke aroma. maple sugar that melts in your mouth, rich nutty malts, hint of smoke. a little light in aftertaste. unique.
