This didnt taste like a cigarette ashtray. Not a bad brew. I thought it was a weak american strong. Oh well. This beer was enjoyable none the less. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Sep 25, 2007 Fooled again! Tap at Barleys. Poured a opaque dark gold color with a small white head. Malts, hints of spice. Finished thin and gay. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Sep 25, 2007 Updated: Sep 30, 2007On tap at Barley’s Asheville. Mostly clear brown-copper with a thin white head. Mostly malt with some spice and slightly sweet dark fruit aromas. Very light palate. Very malty start, a tad bit of spice. It managed to be both muddled and boring. I was surprised to see this as a smoked, since I didn’t detect a whole lot of smoke here. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 24, 2007 pours a clear brown with fluffy head. sweet marzen aroma, and smoky background, sweet and mild, smokiness hides yet is present. mild finish. JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 23, 2007 Pours amber with notes of earth and cocoa. There are hop like herbaciousness on the palate that give to a malt like sweet note on the finish. kitschy (197), Nebraska, USA Sep 23, 2007 in bottle. a dark amber with off-white head. Yummy beer, but hard to identify the style without seeing the write-up. I tasted a chocolately nutty flavor with an spiced twist at the end. My guess was this was a nut brown; perhaps peat imparts a nutty flavor?
