| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 31, 2007 Pours a deep bronze body with light carbonation under a fleeting, almost-tan head. Enjoyable aroma rings of an Old Ale/Scotch Ale rather than a smoked. Some peat and moldy leaves; pralines in a musty crawlspace, drizzled in caramel; alcohol lurks. Thin flavors are a let-down. A mouthful of peat and earth isn’t as appealing as a noseful of the same. Mild fruity sweetness and a kick of scotch & water. This isn’t bad, I’m just wishing it was fuller in body and more bold in flavor.

Taste is very smooth with spicy notes mingling with the wheat and earth characteristics. A solid seasonal, nothing special but good. Glazed9884 (207), USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2007 gets points for originality. thinnish astringent type brew settles some in the glass. earthy sweetish licorice flavor that is light. the smokiness is decently infused into the concoction, but i kept thinking ’"liquid smoke". little bit peppery with another spice as well. gets a point or two since it clearly is a good beer with strongly spiced subtle (vegetables) asian type food. it competes well in that area.
