Bottle. Roasty, malty flavors. Slight burnt flavors make this drink excellent. Great undertones of caramel. Very refreshing.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AlchemistZ (493) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2006
Tawny amber, mahogony wood color with a malted milk ball core-colored head. Aroma of toasted milk and a very mint-like character. Strong roast underpinning and influence on the balance, but it is not necessaily burnt or huge on the impact, with a menthol-like center overriding and a woody sweetness. Nothing special here.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jonnabrix (137) - Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 30, 2006
A nice, clear, deep reddish amber color, this has a light aroma, with fruit and hop notes present. The flavor is a pleasant mix of deep fruits, some spicy hops, and a good amount of caramel/yeasty malt. Pretty refreshing and different.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JahNoth (1039) - Rochester, New York, USA - OCT 28, 2006
Pours an auburn chestnut in color with a fluffy white head that dissipates rather quickly. Ringwood fruity aroma with some lightly toasted cereal malt. Sweet caramel malts are delightfully intertwined with maple syrup, apples, some delicate hops with a smoky tang. A little apple cider quality. Very nice.

Pours a chocolate walnut with a generous off-white soapy head that immediately begins to ring the glass with lace. There are some doughy notes to the nose, as well as some sweet malt and chocolate. Some decent malt upfront, with a hidden sweetness inside of a smoked, slightly roasted atmosphere. The finish still has a bit of that Magic Hat salt acridity to it... not terribly bad, though. It works ok enough, I guess. Nothing particularly special about this brew. The mouthfeel is round, but it doesn’t have the true "winter" seasonal feel that it’s touted for..... more of a maltier peat-induced marzen or bock that works for spring months... Again, nothing terrible, but not my session of choice.

One bottle from the 12pk my brother Ed gave me for my birthday. Deep Amber/Ruby color, decent head, minimal lacing. Stouty, Malty sweet, some caramel, maybe maple. Smokiness is well balanced. Very good.

Sampled at Real Beer Expo (Rochester). Nice deep reddish-brown colour with a decent head that fades fast. Sweet, caramel, malty nose. Sweet and malty in the mouth. Fairly carbonated and a decent full mouthfeel. Balanced with limited hop presence.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Svesse (4215) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 24, 2006
(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 7 Oct) Dark amber colour with mahogany notes. Fruity nose with dark fruit, raisins, figs, caramel, notes of chocolate and smokey hints of rubber. Fruity taste with dark fruit, figs, dates, caramel, hints of chocolate and some balanced bitterness in the finish. Nice and warming, but lacking something extra.
