ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Aug 23, 2006 Pours a dark amber with a dnese tan head. Aromas of sweet malts and some smokiness. The flavor is the same and has a medium body with a slightly oily texture. This brew was just O.K. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 14, 2006 Pours a not so attractive clear brown color with a thick off-white head and very good lacing. Mostly malty aroma with a hint of smoke. Same goes with the flavor, my love for smokey things sort of saves this one but it’s not really smokey enough for my taste. yemntftb (106), USA Jun 23, 2006 Not much to say that hasn’t already been said. I’ll add that this beer isn’t too good. eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 5, 2006 I don’t have a clue how to rate this, because things changed for the worse as I was sipping away. Poured initially with a nice clear dark brown color with some red hues. The aroma was of dark fruits and some spicing INITIALLY. The flavor was surprising, as I had forgotten that this was smoked. Some grainy mouthfeel reminded me of some Baltic Porters I’ve had, while the smoking was very nicely done on top of the porterish type body: licorice and lightly spiced brown ale-ness. Some peat type flavors came through, like many a Scottish style ale. However, I took another wiff after a few sips and picked up sewer aromas. Yes, geez, SEWER! The flavor still wasn’t bad, so I’m planning on finishing this, but I can’t breathe while I’m sipping, that’s for sure. A total turn off and downer. How did that happen? (Ok, final update from same sampling: I poured it. Probably the fifth beer I’ve ever poured in my life. I just couldn’t do it. Do you blame me? Geez, and I like Magic Hat.) whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 16, 2006 Clear, polished bronze body with a silky, light tan head. Smells like peaty Scottish malt and baked sweet apples. Flavor is like a smoky whiskey with thick and sweet honey elements. Mild aspect of charred fruit skins. Has a Ringwood signature. Sticky sweet but thin. Not bad at lightly cool temperatures. But doesn’t scratch my chronic itch for rauchbiers. Throw some wood on the fire and then we’ll talk. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Mar 6, 2006 Bottle: Coppery amber, large frothy off-white head, spotty lacing, slight haze, low carbonation.   Cereal aroma, slight charred wood and campfire.   Pale smoked flavor, very slight hop & malt combo.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Very slight smoked finish.   As a smoked, it is very light & enjoyable as I am not that much a fan of the style.   Very non-offensive is how I would sum it up.
joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Mar 4, 2006 Dark brownish amber w/ thick, creamy finger of tan foam. Aroma is nutty & mildly smoky w/ some notes of chocolate. Medium-light, somewhat watery feel. Flavour is chocolaty & nutty w/ a hint of caramel & maple sweetness--though overall somewhat bland. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Feb 10, 2006 "Poured a reddish light brown color with a small head that diminished to a film quickly. Smelled of sweet malts and a slight smoke. Sweet malt flavor with a little burnt flavor. Not sure if this really is a true beer of this style. Have to try more i guess. Thin mouthfeel"
