BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA Oct 2, 2005 Updated: Oct 15, 2005[bottle] Pours an intimidating brown-copper color with a small head. The aroma is interesting earthy smoke and perhaps coffee or chocolate? Flavors are nice- smoked malts dominate and give way to caramel and then a smooth finish. I dig this brew for the fall season, it fits nicely. jdjuice (203), Japan Oct 1, 2005 Really nice color, almost magenta. Light bodied, with strong earthy flavors. Not particularly smooth, maybe too much carbonation. Flavors aren’t prominent, somewhat burnt aftertaste. Kind of mediocre. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Sep 28, 2005 On tap.
Malty, caramel aroma, copper, small tan head. Assertive malt flavour, caramel too. Light bodied, sweet, with some bitterness. Good, but doesn’t meet the style? crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2005 Copper brown. Suprisingly light smokey flavor with rich sweet malts. Not too shabby. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 24, 2005 draught. brown-copper with a creamy off-white head. aroma is grainy malt, crisp fresh hops, and sweet caramel cookies. I didn’t really see any resemblance to a smoked beer...the body is yeasty and has sugar caramel malt. decent but it isn’t particularly interesting. murawski (158), USA Sep 23, 2005 Updated: Dec 15, 2005I actually really enjoyed this beer -- it’s flavor holds a unique location between summer and autumn. Hey everyone -- this is not a winter ale, so stop expecting a strong smoked beer when that’s not the point. It had the aroma of a fall/winter ale (nice brown sugar/smokiness), but a light body and soft palate. The sweet, malty flavor and drinkability is perfect for those "not quite fall yet" days in September and October. This beer gets good marks from me. 3daddict (139), Portland, Maine, USA Sep 22, 2005 This beer is an amalgamation of many of Magic Hats different brews. Considered a smoke beer but that isn’t really evident. This medium brown beer poured with a sizable head that receeded quickly with much lacing. Earthy fruit aroma with a tiny touch of stale smoke. Malty with a tart fruit tang to taste without much hop to break things up. The higher than normal ABV may be cause to try this beer but it doesn’t really lend any complexity. pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Sep 20, 2005 I like the style, so I didn’t mind this beer. Decent flavor, not that smoky, but none the less a solid beer.
