Mild aroma, a bit of spice, brown sugar. Flavor is malty, earthy, with some caramel, brown sugar and lacking smoke. Medium bodied, fairly easy drinking for having moderate strength. Somewhat enjoyable but leave it to Magic Hat to make a smoked beer with no smoke flavor. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 6, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear brown with orange hints and a thin soapy tan head. Aroma is malty. Lots of bread, dough, fruit, and a touch of smoke. Flavor starts off fruity. Apples and caramel then gets to dark flavors of brown sugar, peat, toffee, raisins, and chocolate. The peat and smoke is not very strong but lends a drying earthy finish to the flavor. A little watery fades to the flavor of spit too quick. I like doughy notes in beers and magic hat seems to always produce that note. Decent. drowland (1447), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Nice beer, thoough served too cold. Thought I got a wheat thing though I don’t see any other comment on that. Nice beer IMO nickd717 (1415), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Good smoked porter, but not quite on the level as some of the great ones (Alaskan Smoked Porter, for example). Brownish amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is malty and a little smoky. Nice roasted malt on the flavor, but could use more smokiness. Taste is mildly sweet. Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a tiny bit thin. j12601 (1412), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange copper color with a small off light tan head. Light yeasty spice on the nose. Thick honey feel in the mouth, with very fine carbonation. Light mildly sweet finish. Overall a very nice but almost muted beer. I feel as if there could be a little more boldness here.
