12 oz bottle. Brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma of light crystal malt brown bread and a touch of molasses. Earthy herbal hop aroma with a soft berry fruitiness. Warming brings up the caramelly/bready malts even more. Some deep sweet herbal notes play off of the sweet earthy maltiness. Nice refreshing ale.

Pours a darker copper with a nice off-white head. Earthy grainy peat malt aroma. Body is sweet with a very light smokey profile. Nothing compared to the Schlenkerla beers. Good caramel sweetness throughout, and one of the best I've had from Magic Hat.

Muddy dark brown and licorice colored body. Nose of moderately strong smoked cheese and meat, nothing close to Schelernkerla levels, but decent nontheless. It doesn’t take much for me to like a smoked beer, and this one has some pretty nice cedar and roast as well as some mellow and creamy, toned down smoked meat. A simple beer, and it has some subtlety, which is nice. Probably one of the better Magic Hat singles I’ve had.

The Lure: Smoked fruitiness works but so far everything is tame. Peaches, oranges quietly reside in the wood-covered earth.
The Festivities: A quenching body is able to propose smoke and drinkability at the same time. Some caramel and vanilla within the fruitiness with a trickle of smoke to keep things interested.
Transcendence: A suggestive wink.

15th September 2008. Opaque brown beer - unusual - initially quite smoky when cold but this retreated as the beer warmed up. The start became silky and smooth and the ending had banana and bubblegum notes.

scotch style with significant peat. Full of flavour without the smokiness of a true smoked beer. More like a smooth single malt scotch
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 1, 2006
Pours opaque copper with an off white creamy head. Smells of cherries, nuts, yogurt. Where’s the smokey smell? Tastes malty with some rasberry and honey elements. Again, the roastiness isn’t there.

It seems like I enjoy this one more than the mainstream RBers, but so be it. Pours burny sienna with big, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of malt, toffee, nuts, cabernet. Tastes malty, hoppy, with essences of dark fruit, cabernet, cognac, and almonds at the climax. I only bought a single of this, and I will be buying more. A unique beer.

Deep amber hue, off-yellow head. Peaty, fruity and leathery nose. Diplomatic, salty pear notes which work more or less for the best. Finish is sweet, orangey, herbal and malty. Palate is light-medium with the carbonation being lower than expected, perhaps explaining the shyness of the aromas.

Picked up in Atlanta. Brown pour. Aroma has some nice smoke, caramel malt, woody notes and some dark fruits. Flavor has a nice smoke flavor, but not overly so...I liked the balance between smoke and fruit. Pretty good actually.
