michfan00 (4), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA does not count Jul 2, 2009 bottle. apple cider appearance. non descript aroma upon first inspection. notes of citrus flavor and aroma deyholla (185), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2009 Bottle. Poured a color that reminded me of apple cider as well as the cloudiness. The head was a darkish off-white. Aroma is hoppy throughout, not much else though. Flavor begins hoppy but transitions in to an almost malty flavor. Not my type of IPA. jimmack34 (511), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Jul 1, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours coppery amber with a decent off white head. Smells of pine, grass, and citric zest. Tastes of piney hops, citrusy, and malty sweet. Nice spicy aftertaste. Good carbonation and body. beerfest5 (83), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 30, 2009 one of those IPA’s that gets lost on the shuffle, nothing too distinctive, not like #9 that you remember because of an unique flavor. gave it a try but wont be back again. coyotehunter (340), , Michigan, USA Jun 26, 2009 Poor excuse for an IPA. Qualifies more as an APA. Lake pollution looking head that dissipates into a sea of floating head biscuits. Smells a bit like old coffee or tea, with a slight hops presence, but I mean SLIGHT. Has some sweaty funk in the flavor, followed by old coffee grounds, some apple, and all around non-goodness that I expect from a shitty IPA. Finish is a bitter metallic . Ick. Kinz (2091), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 26, 2009 Deep orange with a brown hint, clear, slight head. Aroma was of dirty hops and caramel malt. Flavor was sweetish malts with a vegetal hop profile that I simply didn’t care for, bitter finish. Sort of a strange toasted note as well in there that was out of place with the rest of the beer. I’m really striking out big time with Magic Hat these days. cazort (401), Newark, Delaware, USA Jun 25, 2009 (Bottle) Clean and crisp for an IPA--I find many American IPA’s are too heavy or have an objectionable quality to the hops, and this one isn’t. Exciting? Maybe, maybe not. I think this is a solid IPA. SFLpunk (132), South Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 24, 2009 12oz brown glass pry-top. Dated BB June 2009.
Appearance: Beautiful bright amber with a slight haze and thick, foamy off-tan head that leaves lots of lacing. Looks like rootbeer float head.
Nose: Some caramel/biscuit malty goodness, smells very British. There’s a hint of tar and some tobacco too. Not a lot of hop presence.
Palate: Medium- to light-bodied with some crisp hop-leaves up front. Bitterness goes in and out of a body that goes watery from sip to sip. Light biscuit, hints of caramel/munich malt. Finish has some dusty leafy hops but fades rapidly and ends quickly.
Notes: Not what I’d call a great IPA. Definatly leans British in it’s origins and that ringwood yeast doesn’t stay hidden. Greatly prefer the Hi.P.A. from them.
