As with seemingly all of Magic Hat’s products, you actually have no idea what style the beer is until you check it on RateBeer. I certainly would not have called it an IPA. Hops were detectable in the nose, but more toward the APA than IPA end of the spectrum. The palate was pleasant but simple, again giving no evidence that the beer was an IPA. Initially, I was fairly sure it was a Bohemian Pilsner. The finish was medium to medium dry. Overall, inoffensive but ultimately forgettable. iride15 (171), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 13, 2009 Amber pour and a light tan head. Not too much aroma, dulled down. Malt and caramel, hop flavor. Also noted that the beer was a bit flat on drinking. ewestern (198), Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 12, 2009 Very nice clear copper color with an off white head and left decent lacing. Sweet fruity hop aroma but weak. Smooth hop flavor with an undertone of malts. Flat. Not really sure if the beer "wants" to be an IPA. NeoHippie2 (173), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Amber pour with an off white head. lots of citrusy hops on the nose. Notes of citrus and floral patterns in the taste. Very complex flavor to it. Nice hops presence to it too but not overwhelming. Not as hoppy as a regular IPA but I kind of like that about it. Solid brew, worth a try for sure. Butters (1646), Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Clear amber pour with decent light tan head. This has mellowed quite a bit, lots caramel, and faint citrus hop. With a slight lingering citrus hop bitterness. Certainly not as good as the HIPA, but still a decent weak IPA. Don’t care for the finish too much though, a little metallic. Skeegle (487), Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Mediocre beer that I would never call an IPA. Like a starter IPA, the true definition. Nice light aroma and light flavors of thin citrusy fruits of orange, lemon, lime, and pineapple. Nice beer, but nothing to go crazy about. joeymacaroni (181), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2009 pours a beautiful deep amber color with a thick, quickly dissipating off-white head. tons of lacing. aromas of caramel, pineapple, and pine. flavor is heavier on the pineapple than anything, with a slightly nutty/piney caramel afterbite. long, smooth finish. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Sampled from a 12-oz bottle during Dark Lord Day ’09 at table 1. Pours a semi-clear orange amber colored brew with an average off-whtie head that slowly dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of caramel malt with a stronger citrus and pine scent with a touch of apricot. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, citrus zest, a hint of peach/grapefruit and a touch of vulcanized rubber. Finish is semi-dry, mildly bitter with a lingering grapefruit and caramel aftertaste. Not an in-yer-face IPA but still in the right category.
