BeerBaron617 (306), Novi, Michigan, USA Apr 19, 2009 12. oz. bottle from Hollywood Market in Royal Oak MI. This pours a medium amber with an off white two finger head. I haven’t been too impressed with magic hat in the past, but the price was right, so I figured I’d try this out. The aroma was subtle, but I actually thought this was pretty good. I’ve been drinking a lot of session beers lately, and this is definitely be getting this again. Cheers! durhambeer (1188), Durham, USA Apr 18, 2009 Bottle. IPA? Really? Weak hops on this one. Pretty malty for an IPA. Very mild citrus hops; more sweet. Not a fan. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2009 Pours a light hazed copper body, low carbonation struggles through to the top to form a two-finger off-white head which holds. The pour alone suggests to me that this might be more of an Imperial IPA than anything run-of-the-mill. The aroma, too, shows thick and honey-sweet with a berry essence amidst a backdrop of acrid hopping. Sharp, pine and grapefruit bitterness are forward in the flavor yet a balance is attained with a strong malty sweetness. Full and dry to the palate with a sticky presence that makes the bitterness linger long afterwards. A sharp and strong yet strangely sessionable IPA. ~~~~~~~~~~~12 Oz. Bottle from Cornfield (thanks Buddy). Best by May 2009, consumed April 2009. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Apr 16, 2009 12oz bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Amber, clear with medium white, creamy head and lacing. Light spicey hop aroma, bready. Flavor is pine bitterness with butterscotch, some bubblegum, caramel and breadiness. Medium with watery yet nicely carbonated body. Interesting, a little more on the English side. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 16, 2009 Updated: Apr 17, 2009Pours a clear glowing amber with a large frothy rocky sudsy beige head that leaves fantastic lacing 3.5. Bready bitter hoppy aroma, slight vegetable note. Bitter tangy first taste, very slight caramel, mostly lots of metallic bitterness, toffee finish, its butterscotch! Actually very drinkable despite the red-food coloring-like bitterness. Medium bodied, great fluffy carbonation, not sticky but just slightly chewy. Fantastic label. NJBeerman013 (769), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2009 Draft at the Jet Rock Bar in Philadelphia Airport. Very hoppy aroma, floral to the max. It poured amber in color, rapidly fading head. It has a huge malty sweet note, and a ton of hops leaving quite the bite on the palate. It has a big body and a tart, refreshing finish. joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 11, 2009 Draft at Firewaters. Floral hoppy aroma. Clear amber/copper color with good lacing. Taste is nicely balanced hops and roasted malt. Very solid IPA - better than I expected. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 6, 2009 KK S5L3F3T4O6 Hoppish aroma. Some sediment on bottom, I think; or else it’s just some really active fine CO2. Initial taste is reasonably hoppish too. It’s a weird cutting almost lager kind of bitter hops. Somewhat sharp but yet not too strong on the taste buds. Weird label. Bitter hops assemble thru the session. Finish is lingering bitter bite that is blunt yet pardonable.
