desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA Mar 13, 2009 IPA? Meh. Watery, astringent, cloying, yet bland. This beer is lame; I used to expect a lot from Magic Hat when I was first getting into craft beer, but this is pathetic. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 11, 2009 Worth a buy for the bottle. Not a terrible beer, but nothing that stood out for me. Pours a very light orange, with a fairly big head on it. Aroma is weak, but a mix of watery hops and rubbing alcohol. Flavor is a bit more subtle. The hops and rubbing alcohol are present, but a little more malt profile than I expected, and a few different hop flavors, which was nice. Thin and watery on the palate. clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Mar 9, 2009 Updated: May 8, 2009Pours a clear honey color with a frothy slightly off-white head. Aroma is of malt sweetness, a little honey, fruit - apricot or pear, and a slight mustiness. Fruit flavor up front, but the body is too thin, the middle is lacking because of lack of body. The finish, however, is excellent, just a hint of sweetness leads into a nice drying hop finish. Hop flavor lingers nicely on the tongue. Overall - a disappointment. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 8, 2009 Location: 12 oz Bottle from Gilly’s, drank it 3/8/09.
Aroma: Hoppy and a little citrus
Appearance: Golden, orange color, thin cloudiness
Flavor: Decent beer, drinks like an American Pale more then an IPA I think
Overall Impression:
You know what? This was better then I expected. It’s a hoppy Pale, but it doesn’t offer too much else. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 8, 2009 12oz bottle. Lightly hazy amber in color, verging on brown, with a lasting head. The aroma is earthy, toasty malt, some caramel, pear, and, spicy hops. The flavor is malty and earthy with toast, caramel, tangerine, and a firm bitterness. The profile has an english feel, with a fruity yeast character and toasty malt body, balanced by pretty bitter hopping, but low hop aroma. Rather good mouth-feel, with tight carbonation. One gripe is that the alcohol is slightly noticeable in both the aroma and flavor. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2009 This is a decent beer, but I am having a hard time calling it an IPA.Aroma was very malty- burnt caramel mostly. Pour was a nice clear orange with a one finger off white head that laced the whole way down the glass. Taste was like a hoppy Vienna if that makes sense. Burnt caramel with a nice strong hoppiness that dries the mouth and cheeks. There is what I can only describe as a burnt caramel smoke in the aftertaste. Very tasty, though and nice aggressive carbonation. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2009 I love IPA’s but this fell a little short of what I expected. It had a lighter flavor than HIPA and was a little weak. I tried it, thats all I can say. Foxbush (452), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 1, 2009 This was sampled in Cass, WV while on a skiing trip. The IPA poured a cloudy orangish and lacked body. Good citrus flavors and balance with the malts. The IPA poured with a smallish head and no lacing. The finish had some bitterness.
