johnnyoski (160), Macomb, Michigan, USA Oct 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours a murky amber color with a small off white head. Mostly citrus in the aroma with some faint hops in the background. Initial flavor is a hoppy bite before fading to a maltier finish. Bitter lingering taste. Soft carbonation with a dry texture. Nothing special. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Oct 17, 2009 Color is a hazy dark orange. Big fluffy head. Glows like a Christmas light. Really nice to look at.
Smell is a nice woody hop. Has pine notes and a hint of oak. Malt is a little sweet and biscuity. Nicely balanced woody IPA aroma.
The hops here have a distinct woody flavor, and tastes as if aged (briefly) in oak. Grassy and outdoorsy. Definite pine-oil taste. Could use a tad more balance, but it’s good. A hint of bubblegum?
Feels thick and a little oily. Almost milky. Well-crafted. Smooths out toward the end. It has the taste of an honest-to-goodness Imperial IPA. Stronger than most Magic Hat fare. Woody, milky, and probably their most heavy regional offering. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Oct 17, 2009 Bottle sample at the Magic Hat tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/15/09. Cloudy copper pour with a medium off-white head. Faint hop aroma with some caramel malt. Bready malt flavor with a bit of bitter hops. corby112 (679), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2009 Pours a clear amber orange with a fizzy one finger beige head that quickly fades into thin ring. Not much in the lacing department.
Very earthy dirt hop aroma with some dry pine notes and a bit of caramel malt that has some nut and biscuit character.
Very watered down with a lot of literally earthy hops up front that taste like dirt with a caramel biscuit malt backbone that provides a bit of balance and a very odd unpleasant metallic aftertaste. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Oct 4, 2009 Bottle. Standard-looking pour .. amber, airy/poofy head. Nice effervescent appeal. Woodsy aroma. Drinks with a well put-together pact of mellow malt background and a nice piney topping of hoppiness. Nicely assembled. (#3695, 10/4/2009) patrickfannon (274), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2009 Bottle. 12 oz. Pours murky amber, with a moderate beige head. Aroma of spice, ginger, citrus, and hints of malt. Medium bodied with a crisp, clean finish. Average IPA. tmoreau (528), Lombard, Illinois, USA Oct 2, 2009 Sampled at a Mead, Cider, and Beer Tasting by Binny’s Beverage Depot, Glen Ellyn,IL. Poured to my wine/sampler glass a hazy, golden amber with off white foam to the head and some modest, clingy lacing. The aroma was a light nose of fruit sweetness with maybe a hint of citrus. The flavor was soft malt and a supportive, light hop bitterness. A dry finish, somewhat light bodied and thin. Didn’t come close to the commercial description in my book. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 2, 2009 Bottle from nearbeer. Thanks! Poured a clear ruby color with an orange tint and a good sized light tan head. The aroma was roughly equal parts malt and hop with pine, caramel, and toffee elements. Light to medium bodied with mild to moderate bitterness at the end. Dryish to delicately sweet. Earthy and resiny hop flavors dominated with an amber ale malt profile in the background. Not bad.
