hoppopotamus (94), Brooklyn, New York, USA May 23, 2008 A clear copper beer with a small off-white head that doesn’t last. Aroma is malty with a hint of hops (perhaps noble, which is odd...smells kind of like a hopped up lager). The taste is caramel maltiness, some fruity/spicy hop taste, finishes a tad bitter. This is just barely a (poor) IPA, definetly not an imperial.
NachlamSie (1418), Tennessee, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle best before February 2009. Pours a light copper with a good head. The aroma is sort of hoppy, but more fruity malts are present. Hints of apples, caramel, and a dash of wood are noted. The flavor is pretty light, though certainly hoppier than the nose. This seems to have an English character. Citrus is minimal and most bitterness is conveyed in a wooden fashion. The finish is drier and an apple sweetness is found throughout. This is nothing to write home about. It will do when there are no other viable alternatives. FROTHINGSLOSH (1560), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 27, 2008 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a huge orange-white head. The aroma was fairly strong fruity and floral hops. The flavor was sweet, malty and had fairly strong fruity and spicy hops. The beer turns a touch sour towards the finish. Better than the sum of it’s parts and nicely quaffable. hopscotch (4679), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 26, 2008 Bottle... Lightly hazed golden/orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Breadsy, black tea and mild grapefruit nose. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with prickly carbonation. Medium black tea and grapefruit bitterness barely outshines moderate toffee and biscuit sweetness. Lingering, moderately bitter finish. Thanks go out to beerbill for shipping the bottle my way! jeffwilliams11 (304), hooterville, Michigan, USA Nov 26, 2008 on tap at hopcat. pours very clear amber color, very pretty beer. otherwise, very average. well balanced, slightly citrusy, but nothing very exciting... kcmo19 (71), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Nov 21, 2008 Had a nice floral hop aroma. There wasn’t much flavor going on here, it had a little bit of a metallic taste to it. It was an okay brew, but not one of the better Magic Hats.
