3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (February 2008), served at cellar temperature in a Hair of the Dog glass. Clear bronze in color with a largish frothy off-white head that decays slowly and leaves thick lacing....pungent, spicy hops offer hints of wet cedar/pine resin, a bit of citrus, white pepper....the follow-through on the taste buds is solid, with light fruitiness offering just enough sweetness to counterbalance powerful dry woody bitterness up until the finish, which is quite sharp....could be a bit fuller overall, and the carbonation is a bit weak and diffuse; but IPAs and pale ales are something Magic Hat seems to be able to do pretty well, and this is no exception. A reasonable replacement for Fat Angel, I suppose.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear bright copper body under a small fizzy off-white head that faded fairly quickly. The nose is malt forward with caramel and toffee, a lesser amount of piney hops. The flavor is a bit boring, some sweet malt at it’s base, light to moderate bitterness, a rather nondeScript hop profile. Light to medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Meh, this was alright, but nothing that stands out as a whole.

i keep giving them chances though I don’t think anything has ever stood out. at least they’re cheap. an ipa or imperial pale...whatever...with little bitterness and hop presence. Not bad but boring.

4 magic hat ipa’s side by side. 1 Electric Peel, 2 Encore (odd notion, wheat), 3 Lucky Kat, 4 HIPA.
Flatened quickly. Tastes a bit watery compared to others. Faint ash in aftertaste drops this a bit.

Rating from 4-20-2010....12 oz. bottle...copper with a beige head....the aroma is so light its almost non-existent...a whiff of malt and a whiff of citrus & some metal :(...there is not much to this beer, the closest to hops I get are in the mild bitter finish...there is a lot of metallic flavor throughout this beer....and its watery

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It has a deep amber or copper color with very good clarity. The head builds up tall and fluffy. Its head is just off white in color and leaves cool rings of lacing on the glass. There is a big fruity hop aroma with some hints of citrus and pine. It starts with a doughy, sort of earthy malt with some mild sweetness and light caramel notes. Hop flavor slowly takes over with fruity, citrus and mild pine notes. Its hop flavor is very big and juicy yet bitterness is more modest making it very easy and fun to drink. The finish is semi-dry with a nice bitter fade. Its medium bodied with average carbonation and a slick easy drinking texture.
