2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 VTHopHead (1389) - Barre, Vermont, USA - JUN 5, 2004
Bottle - Pours a golden yellow in color with a whitish head that is foamy to start and then disappears except for a rim around the glass. Aroma is slightly sweet with some fruit and a bit of hops; some hint of skunk too. Kinda watery. Other reviewers have mentioned "corn" and that is a dominant flavor.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 sloth (2240) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - MAY 30, 2004
Green bottle, twisty cap, interesting label. Slight white head thats gone in a flash. Pale gold color. corny, sorta fruity nose, not much more. Light body, thin, well carbonated. Corny flavor, cardboardy. Medium dry finish. Thought maybe M-Hat was goinna do something with a pale lager, guess not.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 happy4hops (376) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAY 26, 2004
Aroma of Yuengling w/a citrus Magic Hat twist(like throwing a sqirt of lime almost?).Yellow, short head, lace? The taste is like the aroma.Palate is somewhat crisp. Not a bad lager but sometimes I wonder...what’s the point. If I want Yuengling,I’ll get that.(this was in a sampler 12pk)
1.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 22, 2004
Crystal clear, yellow lager with a large, frothy, white head. Decent retention and ink-blot lacework. The aroma is of light malt, citrusy hops and a hint of jalapeno. The flavor is well-balanced, but a bit corny and thin. Light-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, lightly sweet finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - MAY 20, 2004
Blue & Gold Lager. Very light, dough aroma with a very light taste. Doesn’t quite taste like a lager at all. Very clean and balanced.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 HighGravity (926) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 20, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2004 (Best by oct/2004) Nice pils malt nose. Balanced hops on the palate. Overall, fairly good and drinkable for a Magic Hat beer. I pulled this green bottled beer from a 12 pack, so skunks were not an issue. Magic Hat should drop the ringwood yeast in favor of lager yeast. Helles in style
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 sfontain (673) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2004
Sample at the brewery. Pale golden with a surprisingly large, white head that I believe was due to the tiny little sampling glass in which this was served. Skunky aroma--why, Magic Hat, why? Also smells of citrus. Flavor is citrusy and relatively hoppy, at least in comparison to a macro lager. Thin mouthfeel. Probably Magic Hat’s worst currently in production.
1.1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 16, 2004
Aroma is super skunky! Green bottle...shoulda figured. Pour is a clear light blonde with a small quickly dissipating white head. Skunked. Hops in the finish. Barely drinkable.
1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 freekyp (1411) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 23, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2005 I love Magic Hat, but this attempt is not good. Watery, no head retention, just plain boring. Pale golden with no head, and little malt or hop character. Bad beer from an otherwise good brewery.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 27, 2004
Light golden color. Small sticky bubbly white head. Icky creamed corn nose. Pale sweet malts, light to medium bodied, sweet, gross, lacking in everything. Im not impressed, although I spose it isnt a really bad gross American lager, although I would rather be drinking an Olde English, or something with more firepower...haha...The label is cool though!
