Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 6, 2008 Draft, Capital Ale House Innsbrook. Clear amber, a bit reddish, decent head. Aroma is odd, touch of caramel and a slight vegetal note. The immediate impression is that this brew has very thin malts, almost watery. The main flavor is a strange tea flavor, which is probably the cardamom kicking in. I like cardamom fine, but I wanted a beer, not a glass of iced tea. Truly disliked this. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 5, 2008 Pours clear brownish ruby with off-khaki head. Nose is caramel malt, brown sugar, cinnamon, and mild merlot. Tastes of caramel malt, brown sugar, hops, mild spices, fig, and red wine grapes. A unique representation of this style. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with light caramel, brown sugar, and earthy hops. Flavor is subtle roasted malts, caramel, grainy, and has a touch of smokiness with some spice notes. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA May 30, 2008 12oz bottle. Cardamom eh? Smells a hell of a lot like nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin. All this spice up front with a big bready malt and yeasty background. Pours a nice looking brown with rich amber highlights. Flavor falls quite flat and thin. Toasted malt, dry yeast and some watered down spice. Thin and watery on the tongue with a short spicy finish. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 28, 2008 Updated: May 29, 2008Bottle. Deep red color with minimal head. Lots of spice in the aroma along with that typical Magic Hat yeast. Big malt taste... grain, toffee, spice, a little earthy. This is a nice one. mcox90 (617), Wilton, USA May 25, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a reddish brown with 1/2" white head. Malty aroma with spice background. Taste is malty with a pleasent spicyness. Cinnamon and nutmeg perhaps? Not bad. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA May 20, 2008 Malt aroma with a lot of cinnamon in the background. Hazy rad color with a medium tan head. Moderate malt taste with a spicy finish. lightly chalky palate. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 Bottle courtesy Degarth. Pours a brown amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet strawberries, sweet tarts, and I guess cardamom. Taste is mild caramel and I’m guessing cardamom. Very thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. It suits this beer to have odd in its name because that is the only way to describe it.
