Ron (1002), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 29, 2008 I think this was on sale because the keg was tapped for too long and it was passing an expiration date. I’m glad to see that JB stayed with his ’aqua velva assessment. I just thought it was turning alittle sour. Maybe a fresh bottle someday would change my thinking. jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 29, 2008 2nd in a series of ’color’-inspired beers at McGregor’s. This time we featured ’red.’
We universally found this one odd and somewhat undrinkable. Very sweet aroma, pine, aqua velva. Similar odd taste. Very little hops in palate, but finished dry with hop resins at end. Tweety (337), Vancouver, Washington, USA Mar 28, 2008 Tap @ BU Pub. Pours a deep, dark red. Rather sweet for a red ale, but enjoyable. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Mar 23, 2008 (draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Clear red pour with a puffy tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty and has a touch of hops, spices, and cloves. Flavor is pretty run of the mill. Lightly malty with a decent hop balance that gives way to a doughy and earthy finish. Some spice at the end. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 23, 2008 pretty basic red..reddish pour with medium head..aroma of grassy hops and toast..flavor is oddly spicey and very earthy... nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 21, 2008 12oz bottle. Deep red-brown color. Clovy sweet aroma. The taste is rich, dry, and spicy. An Irish Red wouldn’t have been my first guess, but i guess it fits that category well enough. Certainly has a spicy amber malt kick to it, almost tangy. Cardamom really comes through. A pretty interesting beer, worth a try. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA Mar 18, 2008 Aroma of coffee and maybe some prunes. Colour is brown, quite dark, but clear and not overly carbonated. Taste is almost coffee-porter like, but more watery. Somewhat bitter, but has a clean finish. Not my usual choice of beer, but if it’s your thing, this is a decent choice. Gethinbeer (995), Nova Scotia, Canada Mar 17, 2008 Thanks Joe for sharing this one. Sweet fruity aroma. dark mahogany appearance with a thin head. Bitter sweet, malty and slight hint of spice in it. Nice ale but many better.
