This unique surprise cross-pollinates the classic American wheat beer with an American Pale Ale. What grows next is a fruitfully unfiltered union with a delightful hop aroma, a pleasant citrus hop flavor, and a beautifully balanced finish that leaves other ales hoppy green with springtime envy.

Bottle. moderate malt and hop aromas of roasted, pine and grapefruit peel, light soap for the yeast with hints of pepper and date. Head is large, frothy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy, light amber. Flavor starts moderately acidic and finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery, with a lively carbonation and finishes lightly astringent. An okay IPA, but a little too acidic and not any sweetness kept it from rising above my "15 point, I’d definitely drink this again" overall score.

They call this Encore too, like the hotel in Vegas, but not as cool. A wheat IPA now? Well this is an experience Id soon like to forget. At first I was reminded of the HIPA, but then reality set in and this is not that good. Color does resemble a mix between a pale ale and some forging background of wheat, but that does not sit right with me. I like the IPAs strong and masterful, this is not. But I have had worse and magic hat is a great beer staple in any beer lovers journey. So I enjoyed that good old northeast feeling while sipping away.

Labeled as "Encore". Has an apricot like aroma and taste which is a bit bitter. Has a creamy amber color with a head that disappears quickly.

Bottle labeled "Encore." Poured a very hazy orange with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy with some sugary citrus notes. Taste is slightly watery, but with lots of hops. Not a whole lot of wheat flavor, pretty much just grapefruit, apricot, and hops. Despite being a little one-dimensional it is crisp and drinkable. Not bad.

Pours a cloudy maize capped with a frothy white head. Resiny hops leap from the glass, and grapefruit and oranges lend a very west coast profile to this east coast brew. Medium mouthfeel delivers an ample malt backing of light cereal grain that is quickly superceded by aggressive hop bittering. Slight sweetness floats on the top throughout.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2010 In short: A wheat beer (with bananas and all) hopped like an IPA. A successful experiment
How: Tap at Vermont Brewer’s Festival 2010
The look: Cloudy golden body topped by a medium of-white head leaving good lacings
In long: Fun and original nose blending oranges, bananas and pine-tree. Taste has lightly toasted wheat, baguette bread, fresh bananas, citrus fruits, some pine-tree. Bitterness in the medium range. This beer was described as a wheat beer hopped like and American IPA. A strange idea but the result was actually quite convincing. The wheat/bananas of the hefe really came through and worked very well with the moderate citrusy/pine-tree hopping. What a surprise, might be the best thing I’ve had from Magic Hat. I hope they bottle this one day. Highly sessionnable. And it made me feel as if I was somebody, I came back twice for an Encore.
