This unique surprise cross-pollinates the classic American wheat beer with an American Pale Ale. What grows next is a fruitfully unfiltered union with a delightful hop aroma, a pleasant citrus hop flavor, and a beautifully balanced finish that leaves other ales hoppy green with springtime envy.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a white fizzy head and aromas of lemons, cloves, a bit of wet paper or something like that, a little dough and honey. Flavor is pretty similar... has a doughy sweetness to the malt presence, a bit of a pepper and clove spiciness, and a lemony/grassy hops finish. First sip was not that compelling, but it has kind of grown on me a bit.

Suttree’s Nothing else to do in Mid-February Tasting. Sample from a bottle shared by me. Hazy yellow, white cover. Aroma is some wheat, some spiciness. Taste is spicy hops, a bit of sweet malt, ok but boring.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2011 Draft at RnH. Pours unclear orange with a white head. The aroma is wheaty and lightly sweet with some light lemony notes. The flavor is on the bland side, with wheat and some lemony citric notes. Decent. 6/3/6/3/12 = 3.0

Bottle, labeled as "Encore". Pours orange withan off white head. Nice floral citric aroma, orangey almost. The flavor has citric hops on a clean wheaty base. Simple, but well executed and actually pretty delicious. Way better than I was expecting. Maybe it’s because I just finished a really malty beer, but the hop profile here just hit me the right way. 8/3/8/4/16 = 3.9

I have a hard time believing that the bottle I had was the same beer I had on draft last year, but alas, Ratebeer never lies, right? I’ll make my rating the bottle rating since that’s what people are more likely to try.

Bottled. Poured hazy, milky golden with a short, uniform cap of white head. The aroma picked up lemon and orange zest with tart wheaty notes over a non-descript pale malt base. The flavor found orange and pineapple bitterness throughout, with sweet caramel at the core.. dry, peppery yeast as well.. greener finish with spices, bitter citrus, and tart wheat.. interesting. Lighter-bodied with a scratchy feel on the palate.. the bitterness worked fairly well with the wheat.. decent overall.

The word "nondescript" features prominently in my noes here. Not a lot of wheat character, not a lot of IPA character, either. Thanks to lithy for bringing this to the tasting so I won’t feel compelled to buy the entire mix pack to get this (ticker that I am...).

Slightly hazy gold pour with a 2 finger bubbly white head. Aroma is extremely weak, with a touch of wheat and light floral hop. Flavor has some herbal and grassy hop, but there is also graininess and wheat with touches of banana and nectar. Different, but I don’t really think I’m a fan. Palate is fairly light, with a fairly dry finish. OK beer, but certainly nothing special.

The pour is clear nectarine with a two finger white froth. The aroma is floral and herbal- the hop character is largely perfume-like with some grainy wheat malt following. The flavor is sharp and the mouthfeel is somewhat astringent. Lots of grassy hop notes on the tongue with some banana, cereal grain, and sweet malt. The palate is light to medium bodied with medium effervescence and a crisp, semi-dry finish. A bit rough around the edges, but she’ll suffice.

This beer would be perfect for a sunny mid 80s day by the beach. Unfortunatly it is freakin freezing so I am only dreaming. This is a great spring (or summer) seasonal. Light, citrus, clean. I don’t taste too mush IPA and this brew looks like pee. For what it is though, very nice.

I’d say this beer was the winner of the Spring Sampler pack (not a huge win considering 2 of the 4 aren’t really new). None the less, it’s a pretty interesting brew. Taste is like a very citrusy wheat beer. A small kick of hops at the end and a very clean finish. Like the rest of the Spring pack, very easy to drink and pretty solid overall.
