2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 cheapdark (2965) - Quiptown & Central Valley, USA - NOV 18, 2007
Beautiful unfiltered swirling dark maroon hazy beer appearance from the gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Aroma is rather nutty and dark beer inviting. Odd notion under the cap. Creamy foam with a few bigger bubbles. Has many of the attributes of an alt. Some hop or malt bitterness is apparent on the palate, but it is well controlled. I’m surprized there are not more ratings than this, must be new. Some carbonation is present. Dark beer flavors with little bitterness. Reminds me a bit of a 3 year old Augustiner Iron City dark I had a little while ago. Except for that medium mild bitter hop bite, this is rather well mannered. Finish is some lingering bittter hops that, IMHO, can be done away with.

Review from notes sampled 1/2/2008
Pours a very cloudy dark amber with lots of floaties and a thick head that disappears quickly, but that laces the glass all the way down. Smells and tastes a bit of bready, toasted caramel. A bit of spicy hop character. Not a bad brew, not my favorite offering from Magic Hat, but not the worst either.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 tomhenderson (145) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JAN 10, 2010
12 oz bottle from back of forgotten ’fridge. Poured a darker amber like a tarnished penny with nearly no head and lots of sediment settling at the bottom of the glass. Roasted malt dominates the aroma along with slight Belgian Dubbel-like notes of fruit, toffee, and caramel. Taste continues the theme along with some alcoholic perception. No distinct wheat, hops taste. Very interesting beer, just as I would expect from Magic Hat!
2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 daknole (5865) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 2, 2009
Bottle. Amber pour, white head. Weird beer. Malty and caramel flavor but something weird in the aroma and on the tongue just didn’t sit right with me. Yuck.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dezzilu (226) - Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA - FEB 9, 2009
This is one damn fine beer. Dark amber color with a sweetish hoppy aroma. The flavor is much of the same was a sweeter finish than one would expect. At the moment I can’t seem to find the words to do this beer justice. This is an incredibly tasty and refreshing beer that is surprisingly light for this level of alcohol. My only beef is that the only place I can find this beer is in the winter mix pack ’Feast of Fools’. I would like to buy a full 12-pack of just ’Odd Notion’. This is definitely my favorite Magic Hat brew. Cheers.

Draft. Pours a brown body with ruby hues and a one finger off white head. Fruity esters sweet with fructose and malt sugars. Wheat and grainy. okay.

Poured a dark ruby red color. Pretty clear with an off white head. Aroma was very sweet, not much wheat character at all, the candy sugar stuck out though. Flavor was much the same, very sweet and malty, not much wheat characteristics. Not a bad beer, just not much like a wheat.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 nick76 (3598) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 26, 2008
The aroma is very clean with pine hops, chocolate, and roasted malt. The appearance is red/brown with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter and toasty aftertaste. The palate is average. Overall a decent beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Damico (1405) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 15, 2008
This was a very deep brown ale with a smooth body and flavor. It wasn’t too hopped up or filled with rich spices, just nice subtle flavors that a dark ale should have. The bottle label reminded of those decorated in Belgium for Christmas such as the Noels or the Still Nacht.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 gsmitty80 (1416) - Washington DC, USA - MAY 27, 2008
This beer was very good. I am a fan of dark wheat beers and this fit the bill. A high alcohol content makes it a great winter seasonal. I hope it comes back around.
