(Draft) Pours a cloudy golden body with a small creamy taupe head. Aroma of herbs, toffee, toasted cereal, honey, and green raisins. Flavor of candi sugar, caramel malt, earthiness, and mild hops.

(draft) Creamy tan head atop hazy mahogany body. Aroma is mild, medium sweet, chocolate, light raisin. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, raisin, light caramel, faint earthy. Watery light body, easy drinking.

Bottle sample at Jungle Jim’s. Poured clear reddish brown with an average fizzy off-white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate complex roasted sweet malty aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet roasted flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Clear brown ale with a thin off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, distillery, a bit pungeant. In mouth, a rather light and watery mild, with light sweet malt, a bit of nuts...disappointing for Magic Hat. On tap at Mahar, May 31, 2008.

Nice light brown beer. Good clarity. Aroma is very nutty and sweet. Fresh dark toasty maltiness. Quite fresh and sweet with a nice cocoaish/chocolatey character. Light sweet dates/plums with a lightly sulfurous yeastiness on the back. Easy to put back and it would make a great session beer. I want more beer like this here.

In short: Another forgettable pallid offering from Magic Hat.

Draft at Brickskellar, it’s dark red or even dark brown, surprising compared to what I was expecting. Faint and simple nose of moldy smoke, wet cardboard and mashed grains. There’s a small amount of chocolate that seems to develop far into the finish, and that’s really the only redeeming thing offered in this beer. Earthy minerals and lightly smoked barley malt, help up by a weak palate and oily, thin texture.

On-tap at the brewery. Dark colour with soapy mocha head. Licorice aroma, rather plain. Similar to a porter. The rauch is very understated.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of oats, some yogurt, nutty, earthy. Tastes lightly tarte and chocolatey with a finish that yields a citrussy bite. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours medium brown with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is roasty vienna malt, brown sugar, some nuts and tannins. I pegged this as a vienna. The flavor is vienna malty, with rock sugary and brown sugary notes, mild hops, and mild tannins.

Bottle from a sampler. Pours Copper-brown with no head. Carbonation is reminiscent of cola. Aroma is strong roasted malt and nuts. Bitter roasted malt taste with some green-appleish acidic fruity notes. Medium to thin body.
