dlovell2 (110), Columbia, Maryland, USA Sep 4, 2008 Brown with amber tint. White head. Roasted nutty aroma. Nutty and roasted malt flavor with hints of caramel. It’s definately an "odd" but much welcome addition to a summer pack. blipp (724), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 29, 2008 Growler fill from Consumers in Niagara Falls. Pours a deep orange brown with a tan head. Toasty malt aroma, a bit nutty with caramel and a hint of chocolate. The body is a bit thin. Light flavor, that is a bit toasty with some caramel. Not bad. jhumphries69 (512), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Aug 27, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown with ruby and deep orange highlights. The head pours medium-thin and light tan in color and doesn’t last very long. The aroma is roasty - some sweet malt notes and a firm note of chocolate/coffee from the roasted grain. There is also a touch of earthiness in the aroma. The flavor follows the aroma - roasty and earthy. It features a touch of rich, toasted bread melanoidins and some residual crystal malt sweetness. At mid-palate, it is well-balanced in roast and caramel malt character with a touch of earthy (dare I say almost peaty) bitterness. The finish is bitter with some English hop character and some residual roastiness - not very sweet in the finish (subtle caramel notes). The mouthfeel is a bit thin in body and is also a bit overcarbonated - swirling it around the mouth releases some of the excess bubbles, making the texture more palatable. Overall, a decent tasting ale that is very drinkable. But it lacks that certain something something - perhaps a little less dark roast, a touch more sweetness, more malt complexity, a little more late hop character, and a fuller body could push this brew to greatness. A_R (304), Georgia, USA Aug 24, 2008 Medium-brown dark pour with a small head and minimal lacing. Flavor has a malty sweetness. Not very assertive, but alright drinkability.
. Guinness4Duff (464), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Clear mahoganey brown pour with a nice cream colored head. Sweet aroma of caramel and molasses. Flavor is sweet like pure raw cane sugar, roasted and nutty, very good. Nice body, not too thin, not too thick. A pretty good beer right here as long as you dont have a fiendish addiction to hops (which are pretty much non existant).
