muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, USA Jun 6, 2008 12 ounce bottle from the summer variety pack, purchased at City Market in Burlington, VT (June 2008) and sampled at cellar temperature from a Samuel Smith glass. A big fizzy faintly tan head disappears rapidly above the translucent dark walnut body....nose is strongly nutty, sugary, somewhat loamy/earthy....simple malty-sweet body is pretty tasty with notes of molasses and vanilla, but the too-thin body isn’t supportive enough and it all peters out too quickly. Just OK.
Ron (771), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 21, 2008 Bottle.Pours black with little to no head. Nutty, roasted aroma. light body, smooth, somewhat smoky taste and quite dark. I thought it might be a very light porter. It was different. egajdzis (3086), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 Poured a reddish brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, toast, citrus, and light nuts. Taste of sweet, candy sugar, caramel, and light citrus in the finish. TomDecapolis (2545), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 Summer 2008 version on tap at Capones. Pours a deep amber with a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of caramel, cardboard, floral, light nuts, dark fruits and candy sweetness. Flavor was fruity, hard candy sweetness, dark fruits and a little medicinal. Rynoplasty (290), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours reddish brown with a small head. Taste is sweet and malty. Pretty decent. mgoy (289), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 Magic Hat Odd Notion (Summer 08) is a very nice amber red color with a very small, almost non-existent head. The malt base is sweet and full of caramel flavor with notes of rock candy. While interesting, this is similar but not nearly as good as Three Floyd’s Rabbid Rabbit.
