nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 4, 2009 Not a bad amber ale, and one of the best brews I’ve had from Magic Hat. Amber color with a medium off-white head. Hops and sweet malt on the aroma. Roasted malts and good citrusy hop flavor. A little thin on the palate.. Not bad, but they should probably see if they can get a little more magic out of that hat. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Feb 1, 2009 Single bottle buy from Pat’s Liquors in Porter, Indiana. Nice pour, a deep amber with a reddish tinting and a thick ecru head. It has a hoppy aroma - pine, grapefruit zest, a touch of litterbox - covering a juicy malt sweetness. It tastes of sweet, toasty malt balanced with a firm peppery hoppiness that lingers nicely into the finish. One of the better "new" ambers that I’ve had in recent times. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jan 19, 2009 12oz bottle. Amber orange with a light orange head that laced the entire glass in a beautiful display. The aroma is a little muddled and has some hops that indicate lightly sweet orange, with some crackery malt as well. The flavor has toasty grain, candy sweetness and is decently hoppy in a citrus peel-lightly piney way. Medium bodied with medium bubbles. The almost resiny hops balance the sweet, fullness of the malt well. tarheels86 (705), Washington DC, USA Jan 17, 2009 330 mL. Pours a clear amber with a thin off-white head that settles down. Good lacing. Aroma of pine, resiny hops, caramel malt. Taste is hoppy and resiny, much closer to an IPA than Lucky Kat. Toss in some biscuits in there too. Finish is long and bitter. I think that Magic Hat’s offerings are just not for me. blindeyedbetty (148), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jan 16, 2009 12 oz. bottle pours an amber-tangerine in color with large, poufy off white head in abundance. When the head dissipates it leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is of hops, some hops and some malt. Flavor is of molasses up front with a hoppy middle and a spicy warm finish. Great winter beer and a great pairing for moderately spicy food (like a peppery pizza or pasta). Far more complex than I expected with a fantastic combination of flavors. Very versatile and could easily be a winter session beer. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 14, 2009 Updated: Apr 12, 200912oz bottle. Pours a light tan head with some lacing and an amber body. Aroma is citrus hops, caramel, and biscuits. Tastes like honey biscuits, citrus and spice hops, and a big pine bitter finish. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 12, 2009 Another very good beer from Magic HAt. Smooth malt and nice hop hints. Nice full flavor and easily drinkablle. punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA Jan 11, 2009 Clear amber pour with a big, rocky, off-white head, and great lacing. Slightly nutty, caramel aroma with a moderate amount of pine and a hint of orange zest. Malty, faintly toasty, nutty, and biscuity flavor with a slight dose of bitter citrus at the end. Medium body.
